Every oil spill is a regulatory failure.

I’m starting to think it’s inherent to hollow cylindrical shapes. Must be some kind of quantum tunneling. These companies can’t possibly be that evil, inept and corrupt

At this point, to be involved in oil at all is putting personal profit above everything else. Even when things go perfectly well, it's still contributing to climate change.

Edit: continuing -> contributing

I'm sure the new pipeline will fix all of these issues and we won't have a single spill or accident. /s

I don't support the pipeline being built but this was an oil storage tank that went for a tumble in a landslide, the kind that are absolutely everywhere. This is so unrelated to pipelines it hurts.

But it is related to oil companies just doing things without enough consideration for how things can go wrong while dealing with a substance that can cause a huge mess when they do go wrong.

This isn't an oil company though. It's a local paving company... It was a landslide, government should of stepped in immediately and sent the company a bill for remediation.

Yeah I should have just said most corporations. It's just like the rail companies with their accidents. Maximizing profits these days involves taking on a bunch of risk for more reward, but it's all just financial risk to them while random people and animals in their vicinity taking on the real risk.
