Hello new Lemmy friends!
Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.
The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.
Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

The smug vibe she’s giving off lately is intolerable. She says ‘we’re’ but I do believe she’s alone. I detest it when she does that! Once again she’s treating it like it’s a big secret to drive engagement.

Legit can’t stand this smug ass woman. Go be with your kid who is graduating high school this week ffs!! Didn’t she post something the other day saying “when I’m not being a mom, I’m so weird” or something? Like when are you even being a mom.
She really thinks she’s like some world famous supermodel or actress. Her secrets are so boring, all she did was go to NYC to eat a bagel and watch a premiere of something everyone can watch, she didn’t even get to meet the star. BORING!!!
She so lacking in self-confidence these trips are wasted on her. She had a whole evening in NYc and she spent it alone, in a hotel room talking to her phone.
The worst. I couldn’t imagine being flown somewhere for free and given a free hotel and just spending my time in a big vibrant city talking to my imaginary friends. Like go for a dinner even if alone, go walk Times Square, do SOMETHING! She wasted a free trip being a loser.
She is afraid someone will catch her in the wild and snap an unfiltered pic. So she stays in lol

Her secrets are SO BORING! Yes! Meeting celebrities is not exciting. Holding celebrities on a pedestal is infantile. What a waste of resources to ship this shitfluencer off to New York to watch a movie. This is getting absurd.

Now onto LA, I can’t imagine the waste this will be.
Influencers who are flying everywhere all the time really don’t care about the environment at all. I mean, it’s obvious with overconsumption and fast fashion, and pushing brands on people left right and center, but when you find out they’re going to in person events all the time outside of their country back to back to back, then they don’t care about the world their kids grow up in. Let’s just wait to see if there’s any complaints from her about the extreme heat and hopefully someone can say like “stop freaking flying around all the time contributing to extreme pollution!”
Ugh!! I’m so glad we are talking about this. It’s a dire situation. To waste resources on something so profoundly pointless is disappointing. It’s a movie? She listened to a celebrity blubber about it? Was that really worthy of the wasted resources? Was there not enough shitfluencers in New York to attend this event? I think people need to become more aware of the impact celebrities have on the climate crisis and stop supporting their empire of bullshit. You can still enjoy the art when you separate it from the artist. You can still appreciate an artist and hold them accountable. Forcing us poor folks to drink out of paper straws so that the wealthy can continue to exploit our resources is fucked up.
She could have gone to Toronto to see it with Joanna, but nope, let’s fly to NYC to sit in a theatre there.

If anybody hasn’t blocked the random person who stopped what they were doing, popped in here and took the time to make a comment about people wasting their time on criticizing her behavior, you should block them. This person criticizes people calling out the use of filters and over consumption, but they are okay about racist comments about India? Go block them. There is no space here for racism and random racists popping in here.
