RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I'm binge-watching The Last of Us this weekend.

I avoided it because it was based on a video game. I was wrong to.

Sigh, I guess I better stop avoiding it.

Started watching Face Off—not that Face/Off—the show where a bunch of special effects artists make monster-ish costumes in a competition. Pretty fun! The bad ones are unfortunate to look at, but the contestants have a lot of talent and it’s interesting to watch. No ads too!

Finished the Hashira Training arc in Delon Slayer, this show is so damn cool. The training scenes were a nice way to add some variety to the fights this season, and THAT ENDING!!
Aaaand the latest What We Do In the Shadows was great, I don’t want it to end 😭

Oh boy…

I watched every Terrifier movie, The Substance, and started watching a show called Teacup.

It’s been… a ride.

Some people post full action movies to youtube. It's interesting bc they use various techniques to avoid the copyright-detection bots: they append long segments of unrelated video after the movie, they manipulate the "thumbnail" that shows when you mouse-over the timeline, I think they AI-generate thumbnails that aren't actually clips from the movie, and of course they use text that describes the movie without actually using the movie name. The accounts look like they've been around a while, with "video blog" style posts in different languages. In the comments, people without an adblock strategy complain about the large number of ads, so I'm guessing the posters are trying to maximize uptime to make more ad money?

The movies are usually only up a day or two before the algorithms figure it out (or they get manually reported?) and they're taken down but a lot of times they get resposted. I suspect it's ongoing and I just stumbled into it now bc I was looking for movies to post to [email protected] . Anyway, uBO is still working on youtube, so I watched a couple of those recently.

I’m on the last few episodes of the Chinese fantasy series, Fangs of Fortune. I’m not ready for it to end. Edward Guo is such a wonderfully creative director, his projects always stand out in this genre. He also works with a lot of actors I really like. I’ve had the OST on repeat while working.

The "banned" episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Am enjoying Ludwig, a BBC crime detective drama with David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin. You can watch it if you can get to the BBCs iPlayer.

Watched Cloudy Have A Chance of Meatball 2, it's an okay sequel and fun to watch, really like how there's a lot of hint the entire movie about what those food are and why Berry acted that way. Weak villain though, feels like it shouldn't need one.
