I worked with a guy named Aaron Dick who who was cursed with always getting [email protected]

Aaron was actually very nice.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 month ago

Someone whose name is Dick must face a lot of issues in addition to email IDs

His parents knew exactly what they were doing when deciding on a name with A.

I worked in IT for a bit and the automatically generated emails were first initial last name

With manual adjustments in some cases, such as Sarah Hart (shart@...)

My company users first letter of the name and the full surname. I thought it was odd when I saw Gina.Ross@... Until I realized.

Just wait until she switches to [email protected]

It's just an invitation to use the Unix finger utility to find user info on them. Like a shortcut to a profile.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

I have always made a .plan file on every unix-like system I have been on. Just in case I get fingered. Heck, even my at home single user devices have a .plan. Just to give the hackers a treat.

This is a priceless gift, Megan. Use it to its fullest potential, and great things will follow.

Once saw [email protected] at an employer. On the other hand Hannah thought it was hilarious.

Hmm, that's probably enough to dox myself to ex-collegues.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Okay if the ha came from Hannah, was her last name Dcock? Or was it Hannah D. Cock?

Oh, duh. As a person who's had the same firstletterlastname format email at a company I've worked at, I should've realized that lmao

Mostly I get given my first name or full name. Getting just [email protected] feels pretty awesome when it's a common-ish name too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's a serious power move in a large org.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately that's always been in small orgs lol

Though in one that grew rapidly, I was in the last batch of people whose mugs had no last names on them. I think my employment contract was like #80 or something and 3 years later when I left, there were like 200 or 300 people working there

I used to work with a guy named Paul Nessel who became "PNESS" on our network.

The other way around would be cooler. Sounds like a pirate in pain.

And then you’re suspended for an offensive username.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago

I really hope she was able to get a different email. Cause after this has made the rounds on the internet theres no way that address is even usable anymore.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 month ago

And the poor lady probably already had a childhood filled with name-based insults.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

honestly this is your fault for having the last name finger. skill issue tbh
