I've been busy with [email protected] since that's been seeing a lot of activity. The queue is up to almost the end of February, posting every 30 minutes. If you think that's too much, you should see how much I don't post πŸ˜„

I've been particularly worried and stressed about the fall of the USA...I voted for Harris, expecting deranged and cruel shenanigans from Trump. Welp, a lot of his voters are realizing that they made a bad choice. I am trying to stay calm by writing letters to my representatives and signing petitions. Keeping up the opposition is the only way these fucks might be careful. Also, trying to play video games in order to decompress from this madness which is going on in the USA.

This is the way. Do what you can, which actually helps with the nerves bc then you KNOW that you participated.:-)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Agreed, it does help to participate in the way one is able. As a chronically ill person, it's often from at home and online; this matters, as participation and showing one's opposition can matter regardless if it's in person or not.

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

From the poem by Rudyard Kipling.

Yes, this is absolutely the way. At least, this is always what seems to have worked so far.

Anything in particular you want to call out?

I think most of the things in U.S. news this week have been distressing:

Conservatives would just say I have TDS, but the effects of the executive actions in this country impact me and people I know directly.

I had to have conversations with a trans friend of mine where I explained she can no longer get her passport updated with the correct gender marker, and the state won't issue a state ID with the correct gender marker, so now she has no way to travel by air without outing herself (either she will have to renew her state ID to get RealID, or she will have to get a passport - either case the ID will have the wrong gender marker). This is obviously distressing in itself, but especially in the context of anticipated persecution when that travel will become more necessary.

It really can't be overstated how badly this impacts my life - I am being forced to relocate after settling and making plans to stay where I am the rest of my life. It's not even clear that moving to another state will be sufficient at this point, and it's unclear what the risks of leaving the country will be.

And that's just me, there are so many other people that are impacted even worse than I am. It's hard for me to think about right now. I really just have to not think about everything going on, to maintain a distance from reality.

Internet hugs, I am hating this reality too

aw, thank you πŸ«‚

also, that is a perfect meme for this moment, well done πŸ‘

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Thank you, lol. This meme used to be me, then I was foolish and decided to try paying attention to reality. Bad move

It's been lame, ngl. Having issues at work, stressing out about the deluge of garbage happening politically, feeling totally out of control of my mental health and like I have no recourse to address the spin out (single, no friends, isolated antisocial weirdo, not even a therapist b/c no insurance and not wealthy enough to afford out of pocket).

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

The world is fucked up. With that in mind, perhaps the best resistance would be to enjoy it regardless. πŸ™ƒ Vive!

I feel your pain but i cant even imagine being in your situation. Things are so crazy and you arent crazy for feeling stressed out. I still believe the heart of your nation is good even if the current administration does not reflect that. The good people will get back in control.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's the odd part: there's a lotta really good people here, and I know it sounds odd, but a lot of what's happening is BECAUSE of kind-hearted people... who nonetheless are simply so very, very dumb. :-P What manner of idiot would put us in charge of ourselves...? :-P

It's gonna be an extremely wild ride before they wake up though:-(.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah its good people who have been clearly mislead and poisoned by propaganda.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Which they allowed themselves to be, and like for children and such that makes sense, but the people who choose to stand up in a leadership role is a whole other thing. For example: if you don't want an abortion, then don't get one, but when you cross the line and actively work to prevent others from getting one... that's when it goes beyond simply being "mislead" to working to harm others (whether they choose to realize that or not).

Ukrainians understand this all too well. They are aware that the Russian soldiers coming at them do not want to be there. But they are in a position to either be killed by them, or to have to deal with them first - possibly non-lethally, but either way they gotta protect themselves and their families. It's a rough spot to be in, but they are forced into it all the same by people with no conscience.

Coming off a code sprint; about to release a small patch update and then take a much needed hiatus. Despite being February, it's been decently warm outside, so have been planning to get a head start on some outdoor projects I want to get done this year ( and finish a couple that are leftover from last year, though knowing me, probably not in that order πŸ˜†).

Also trying to balance those projects with the looming threat of being unemployed. The org I work for is largely (though not entirely) funded by agencies this administration is currently gutting. So, that's fun. I've been here 7 years and was planning to retire from here, but that's looking less and less likely every day.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

I am so sorry to hear that. My situation is similar and wondering what the next day, week, month, and so on will bring. I am not all that emotionally competent, and dislike change. Welp, I guess it can't be helped though.

I played a couple of single-player rounds of Steel Division 2 today. Fun, but kind of "solved" the single-player stuff at this point. Does make me wish that Eugen would keep working on the AI, sell it as DLC if one wants. In fairness, Steel Division 2 does have a lot more work on the single-player side than their earlier games.
