Processing ultra processed meat even further? Even for poverty food this is too much.

This is fine, but I prefer it when you take the pie, put it into a food processor, compress it into a log and then slice it to serve on sandwich bread. Serving it just sliced out of the pie is lazy.

is that a meat mousse

West Virginia

Country roads, take me the hell away from here.

I see lots of references to John Denver, Country Roads, but I present:

"Bye, bye Miss Bologna Pie"

Doc saw my arteries, said I would die...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

May I suggest:

Doc took one look at my arteries and started to cry
Them surgery boys pumped propofol now I’m high
Singin’ this’ll be the day that I die…

cursed cuisine

[–] [email protected] 4 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

That does not look like a real recipe.

This, however, is a real recipe: https://www.food.com/recipe/mile-high-bologna-pie-387434

It also starts out with, "if you like bologna, then this is the pie for you." Does anyone like bologna? Isn't it more of an "eh... it'll do" food?

And then there's this. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/appetizer/meat-appetizer/bologna-cake.html

It has Worcestercire sauce in it, so you know it's gotta be some good bologna cake.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

A couple of family members like fried bologna sandwiches, but I'm pretty sure it's ~~because of past trauma~~ nostalgia more than flavor.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah, this feels a lot more like "okay, well I can't afford to make my kids good, nutritious food, but bologna is super cheap, so maybe I can make it taste acceptable" sort of dish that certain unfortunate people grew up with.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago

I grew up with family on the OH/WV border and some in WV and I've never seen the abomination in the picture.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I really like bologna. I'll eat it by itself fresh outta the fridge as a snack sometimes.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

1950s cuisine. Stick some carrots in there for decoration.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, and suspend it in some savory gelatin.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

While on benzedrine. Happy days.

[–] JoeBigelow 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Can I just have the Benzedrine and pass on the rest? It suppresses my appetite anyway.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yes you can, but you will miss out on an overdose of Vitamine A sweety.

[–] JoeBigelow 1 points 16 hours ago

I'll have a carrot

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

And here is the site that started the modern world down that road of horror all the way back in the late 1990s: https://lileks.com/institute/gallery/index.html

[–] [email protected] 18 points 21 hours ago

Country roads take me back home, get me out of West Virginia, please help me god.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 22 hours ago

You've not from West Virginia if you never lived in West Virginia

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

You can still buy that stuff in cans

[–] [email protected] 15 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

My colorblindness makes it look like concrete to me.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I bet you wouldn’t be able to taste the difference ™️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 17 hours ago

Much, much saltier than concrete.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 23 hours ago

That looks a lot like ground and congealed SPAM.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Where's the food crimes comm when you need it?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago

In America? Just be thankful there's not Velveeta and ketchup on it.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 21 hours ago

TIL James Taylor has a song called "Country Road."

It is not about West Virginia.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

I wish to die now

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

Thats a load of baloney!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 22 hours ago

So that’s the ham pie Amanda was talking about

[–] [email protected] 6 points 22 hours ago

Silly Putty Pie. Yumm

[–] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago

Why not use liverwurst at that point? I guess it's guaranteed gout.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago

This is not a thing.

We like pepperoni rolls and sausage biscuits.

Not. This.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 19 hours ago

Joey Tribbiani approved.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 19 hours ago

Is this that "meat pie" I keep hearing about?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

It's not even cooked after?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 20 hours ago

It's a sandwich meat, you don't need to cook it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Do you usually cook your deli meats?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I toast my sandwiches. So yes, in a manner of speaking yes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

Ah love me a good toast. Fair enough. They also tell you to cook it to prevent foodborne illness (if you're pregnant or immunocompromised) but i can't say i have ever cooked deli meat.
