Foregoing almost any modularity though.
Framework

Yeah this is a weird direction for the modular laptop company
I could probably overlook the RAM being soldered if they'd at least given 8 lanes on the pcie slot, but I'm guessing they were all dedicated to the igpu and m.2
“Ryzen AI MAX+”
What kind of stupid overcompensating bullshit name is that. Like come on… Was “Throbbing Artificial phallus omega ultra plus platinum” taken?
The only way I can wrap my head around this is as a really expensive console, where the standard for modularity and upgradability is non-existent...
Just kinda bummed. And I adore small computers. It's a super cute device with lots of fun little details, I just don't see why go with this over a normal SFF PC for the price. Its easier? Cuter?
Who are they marketing this too? Seems to be too expensive for the lower end market and not powerful enough for the gaming market.
Seems like it'd be a good mini PC to have in the living room or something to buy for less tech-savvy parents or kids
still pretty pricey for what it is but hopefully upgrades will make it worthwhile in the long run?
What upgrades would you do?
Soldered CPU/GPU, soldered RAM, X4 PCIE slot. There are no upgrades to be done.
upgrade meaning when a new unit comes out just buying the internals and not the whole case. Looked like it was somewhat cheaper buying that than the built unit when I looked. $799 for the cheapest version vs $1,099 for the base cost of the cheapest built version if I'm understanding right
i think that would defeat the purpose tbh
Fluid liters?
Gaseous litres
I'm sorry. When the fuck did we start measuring computers with liters?
Common in Mini and smaller designs.
It's actually quite common in the SFF space. Cases are considered to be SFF if they're 8-19L, and Ultra SFF is 4-8L.
So when they say it's 4.5L, it's a tiny case.
It's been a stat for a while so you can gauge component space available and air volume. I moved from a 19 litre mini tower Dell case to a much larger 45.5 litre Thermal take case.
With metric you can easily convert it to any other measurement, it’s 4500 cubic cm.
And if it was full of water, that water would weigh in at 4.5kg.
