Someone here should grab it before we end up with a situation like that other subreddit (either the 'save 3rd party apps' one or 'reddit alternatives'?) where the mods were removing posts promoting Lemmy/fediverse

Someone here should grab it

My thoughts exactly ;)

For RedditAlternatives, it was admins and not mods

Oh interesting, good to know

But email is so difficult, you have to choose between all the clients and the web version.

And look at all those servers! I'll never be able to choose between Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo. It's too difficult as if my life depends on it. I've heard people at Gmail make fun of Yahoo users, and Hotmail users are capitalists. The pain is unbearable. I'd rather keep my good old fax, at least I can trust it.

People have been using email as a decentralized platform for ~~years~~ decades (and soon a century), and they forgot how to use a computer so much that they can't translate this to other concepts?

Yea, its easier once you understand that, they overismplified every platform, made people incompetent, no one chose less features for themselve, yet to meet someone who doesnt miss myspace embedding, even if they didnt experience it themselves

You're telling me the quoted text isn't being sarcastic?

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

This is how it sounds like to me. We were excited when we grabbed our first emails, and we were definitely not wondering about all the FAQs, guides, and communities to explain how it worked. We experimented and that was it.

As someone who used to work in IT support, that mirrors real conversations I had daily with people you'd all expect to be competent.

I wouldโ€™ve but my own reddit account got banned.

I love the idea of a Lemmy ambassador but absolutely loath the idea of going back to reddit.

We're better off doing better SEO on join-lemmy.org and improving onboarding.

The easiest way to gain more people on Lemmy is Reddit, the platforms are really close to each other.

Text-based forums are a dying breed anyway, most of the people nowadays don't use them. The few who do, are on Reddit.

Would you like to yourself?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Have you checked the subreddit since this was posted? :)

I don't want to put too much on your (already very full) plate, but would you be up for being a backup moderator?

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've seen your request, I can become a backup mod, I'll accept the request when I'm on my computer
