Yes! I hope Canada becomes the art capital of the world!

Canada should take advantage of this situation to hire US scientists and doctors too.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Reminds me of another place that took in a lot of scientists running away from a Nazi rejime.

Hey. We don't fault talent for being born in a decline. We'll just be rescuing them.

Oh. And doctors and nurses and air traffic controllers and computer coders too. Sorry, but thanks.

Sadly the opposite is happening right now for healthcare and research. Wages are low, housing is expensive. In the states wages are higher and housing is cheaper, its a no brainer. I've seen MASSIVE brain drain over the years, hopefully wages adjust or housing crashes or both but we definitely need to reassess our priorities.

One thing to note, though, with the current situation in the US is that people are deciding against coming here for work in many of those sectors. From science and engineering to doctors and college professors, I've heard multiple people saying that their European colleagues have turned down jobs in the US.

Canada has been fighting a war on science almost as long as the US (I remember hearing about issues with the conservative government in Canada back during the 2000s), but this is a real time of opportunity to bring smart people in.

Ouai! Projet Trombone! Sera fantastique!!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 13 hours ago

If the may talented Canadians that work in the USA returned it would definitely benefit Canada artistically.

They're already the movie and TV show making capital. They've got a head start.

I get it, but also regret that there is one less person voting against evil, assuming that will continue mattering.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 14 hours ago

One less rich person contributing taxes to evil.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 14 hours ago

Given the stupidity of the electoral college, odds are they don’t live in a swing state therefore their vote don’t matter.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 15 hours ago

We don't get to vote against evil here.

Eh, I know that the pink Floyd producer is a legend but wouldn't have recognized his name.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 hours ago

I think they should have titled it "Bob Ezrin, producer of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" renounces American citizenship in a return to Canada"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 hours ago

What a shame there wasn't enough room on the paper to fit both facts.

American here. I'd love to do the same. My company even has a branch in Toronto that maybe I could transfer to, but I'm under a year in and I don't think they'd allow it currently.

Y'all got rid of the grandfather clause for citizenship, right? My grandmother was born in Newfoundland, wish I could take advantage of that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Your grandmother might not even be Canadian, if she was born before 1949 and left.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

She was, and did. Long dead now, so doubt it matters.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago

You might have a claim to British citizenship. It would be really difficult to prove, though.

Look into whether your profession is listed under their β€œexpress entry” program, they fast-track skilled labor.

Interesting, thanks! Looks like I'm at least a TEER 2, possibly TEER 1, and otherwise fit a lot of the metrics for points due to age, education, language, etc. Gonna discuss with the wife.

grandfather clause for citizenship, right

You'd first have to get your parent in the club, I think. Then, as half, you get a leg-in.

Both her and my father have passed, so probably can't do much lol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago

I wish I had the resources to do similar.

I remember people arguing against russian people saying that they shouldn't be allowed anywhere outside their country and if they are unhappy with it they should march to the cremlin. I'm gonna guess same goes for americans, right?

Excellent straw man
