The reddit crackdowns are really having an effect. Let's hope they tighten their grip even further.

Spez: I have altered the deal, pray that I don’t alter it further.

Lots of new people have been popping up lately. Very cool.

Hopefully existing users don't run them off with their smear campaigns of instances they don't like. I can't imagine it's very welcoming to join a new type of social media only to get told you joined a "bad" instance or that the communities you found are "tankies" and whatnot. Give people a chance to bed in and make their mind up for themselves instead of shoving negativity and personal bias in their face on day one IMO.

Lemmy is already a big shift from what people are used to. Don't discourage them by being part of the problem they're trying to escape.

Yeah the immediate instance infighting doesn't put us in the best light, there are other places for this kind of discussions

In my opinion, I feel like you should make anyone aware if they join the tankie triad. Otherwise, it usually leads to them having a bad impression of Lemmy and leaving it for Reddit.

Yes, but then just point to the infamous post and suggest them another one

I usually just write a short paragraph explaining why they shouldn't join those three instance, and reccommend an instance (usually sopuli.xyz, thanks to the criteria you made once).

Good stuff.

Let's hope Lemmy/Threadiverse never goes below 50K MAUs ever again and it's only up and up and up.

Anyone know what happened around 2/11 2/12?

This reminds me. On the r/therightcantmeme, I saw a mod post advertising that instance. I think that's a red flag, because there's many good people that join Lemmy through that place and it worries me that they get corrupted there. I'm not saying that every Hexbear user is bad, I mean that there's many good people there that joined a bad place.

I really hope this means that more ""normies"" join Lemmy and give activity to some subs and I get to see more diversity in content and thongs that I like.

If you (the reader) use the word "normies" unironically and you don't like them, let have you know that you're not doing any good for the community.

Agreed

All this elitism and gatekeeping is tiring. This isn't supposed to be someone's VIP club, it's open source and free software, after all! 😆
