Resist: It's Time

We are still in this together, but "this" is going to be real different in the very near future. This demands a different kind of "we."

The French Resistance during Nazi occupation played important roles delivering downed Allied airmen back to safety, supplying military intelligence, and acts of sabotage.

The Underground Railroad is estimated to have brought 100,000 freedom seekers to safety between 1810 and 1850.

It's time.

Oh fuck, this is serious. We are at anonymous mask stage.

There's a history lesson there but I'm too exhausted..

I don't know... if there's a single bee flying around me I'm going to very quickly find my way to another area.

Yeah, I'll start swatting, ducking, running, all at the same time.

We couldn't even stand together to peaceably prevent this demented rapist from winning the presidency. Like, just "the left" couldn't do it.

I mean I'd feel better if there wasn't so much friction on the obvious anti-trump side. In the before-times popular music played a unifying role but that's gone. Public figures usually only last as long as their embarassing whatever comes out. It feels like we're not even going to be able to be ready for midterms, much less a revolution of any sort.

I empathize with the pessimism and understand where it comes from, but I fail to see anything useful added by this comment. If anything it feels like the opposite of help, it feels like encouragement to give up.

I guess I'm continuing to ask for ideas. Who's got a plan?

The only plan I know about is the Democratic Party will field candidates for the midterms. And most of the people who self-identify as "left" on lemmy - so far as I've seen - are very dismissive of that as any sort of plan. But I don't know of another.

(that's not to say the 50501 demonstrations aren't "a plan", I mean like a political plan to vote and regain seats in the government I guess.)

The only solutions to what is happening right now, to me in my mind, would put me on a federal watch list. I've been pushed to such extremes because I cannot see how you educate those unwilling to learn. MAGA has become the largest cult in the world and we don't have enough padded rooms for them all.

I'm not smart enough for a plan but if you give me a shovel I'll help dig the ditches. I hope we won't need them but I can't see a peaceful resolution to fascist deathcamps. I don't know how you beat that without a very messy conflict.

Here is a plan I like:

Step one - Regroup and storm. We need to have infighting until a new left leaning populist movement emerges that can defeat this right wing populist movement. That requires folks to argue, bang their heads, retreat, and emerge anew. Accept the infighting for a bit.

Step two - rally around a new message. The message needs to be emotional, simple, and economic. It needs to undermine this administration entirely, exploiting their economic weakness. The policy should be reduced to a three word chant, with each word being a single syllable. Think about the simplicity and rhythm of "Drain The Swamp" or "Build The Wall," but imagine a good message that builds the economy for the masses.

Step three - back the most charismatic politician who adopts the message at every level of government.

Why do you say this as a certainty when most Americans can’t even be bothered to get out and vote? You literally had one day you needed to do anything (voting day) and you didn’t do it.

I guess we should all just roll over and wait to be killed then. Thanks for your contribution.

You’re welcome, Guy Fawkes mask-poster.

Good luck being reactive in your politics.
