If you did a gesture on national TV that lots of people misinterpret as a nazi salute, and you didn't mean to do a nazi salute, what would you do? What would any person with a public platform in that situation immediately do?

It's called a nazi salute. Don't spread doubt on what it was. He did it twice in close succession. The only other reason for holding your arm up like that is when you explain how high Blondie, Hitler's dog, could jump.
'Nazi' isn't a preferable pronounce, it's what you're called when you act like a nazi, talk like a nazi and salute like a fucking nazi.
It's outrageous to claim he isn't a nazi
Ignoring the fact that he did what was probably the most vigorous Nazi salute in existence...
- He agreed with a post on Twitter that promoted the antisemetic conspiracy theory that Jewish people "push hatred" against white people
- He doubled down on the great replacement conspiracy theory
- He supports the AfD party which has not-so-subtle Nazi themes in official posters
- He actively created a safe space for Neo Nazis on his platform
- He threatened to sue researchers documenting the rise in hateful tweets
- After the inauguration "gesture", instead of apologizing he made Nazi-related puns
- He shared a post absolving Hitler of murdering millions of people
It's not just not outrageous to call him a Nazi, it's a perfectly normal and reasonable thing to conclude especially when you consider his other behaviour and the kinds of things he supports
Supporting the AfD party, an openly neo-nazi party, and appearing in their events, days after the "roman salute" removed any kind of ambiguity that could exist. He's a nazi, period. And the only good nazis are dead nazis.

Look guys, just because he bought Twitter and reinstated all the Nazi accounts, and thinks and says Nazi things, and and performed an obvious Nazi salute not once, but twice in a live broadcast to millions of homes, that doesn't mean he's a Nazi!

What’s really outrageous is that he’s a free man, instead of rotting in some cell for the rest of his life like the Nazi sympathizing psychopath waste of oxygen he is.
