People don't understand the immense pride I feel as a U.S. citizen knowing that no matter what happens and what consequences there are we will only more confidently double down on being wrong until we get hit in the head by the sky having actually fallen because we somehow broke it for everyone.

We won the war on drugs, we won the war on terrorism and we will win the war against our own futures! We will show you!

Damn we are so smart, maybe you canadians need to drink more milk because your brains aren't very powerful, especially with AI now you need to catch up.

-I lean over and in a whisper add someone please rescue us from this hellscape, we are TERRIFIED

Before creation, the angels were panicking in heaven as God hadn't been seen for days.

Finally, Michael finds her and asks her what she has been doing?

"I created a world of balance. For every good there is an ill."

Michael wonders and marvels at the blue-green marble, eventually finding a land of unparralled plenty and beauty. "So who lives here then? They must be pretty rotten" says Michael.

God replies, "oh that ends up being Canada. They have some false starts, but they are among the kindest and most generous of the people I have created."

"But where is the balance in that? A beautiful land with great people?" Asks Michael.

"Wait till you see the bastards I put next to them."

Rescue yourselves please. Pretty pretty please. Do what you know needs doing.

lol, I am not here because I am foolish enough to expect I am actually getting rescued, we have long sailed past that point awhile ago, I am here because I call a turd a turd and that is just who I am and the rest of my life follows from that.

We are under no illusion how cooked we are, but you overestimate the agency we have to rescue ourselves.

you overestimate the agency we have to rescue ourselves.

Better start finding some.

Nobody else is coming to save you from yourselves.

It's up to Americans to fix their own shit.

There isn't any, are you listening to me?

People keep saying shit like "stay safe" as if there is any way most of us are going to escape this.

If I end up ok it is only because of dumb luck that many like me won't have, that is just the reality of it. I am ADHD, I don't fit into this society, my brain is unwanted in this society (fuck off anyone telling me ADHD is a gift), I have a massive target on my back and tolerance for neurodiverse folks is plummeting.

Why would you think I am under any illusion about my future or that I wouldn't have already avoided it if I could have?

For decades I've been constantly hearing Americans calling themselves"home of the free, land of the brave".

But in the last 4 months all I hear is "there's nothing we can do. We just have to accept this fascist takeover".

[–] Snowpix 3 points 5 days ago

All of those Americans screaming about the Second Amendment, and absolutely nothing to show for it even as an actual fucking tyrannical government is undermining their country. Well armed militia my ass.

The tariffs put pressure on companies with cross-border supply chains to either move all of their manufacturing into or out of the US. Since the US doesn’t have enough infrastructure right now and US citizens wouldn’t want to work in those factories anyway, the tariffs are essentially killing what little manufacturing the US had left.

[–] n7gifmdn 17 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Anyone who doesn't see this coming needs to take economics and history.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

If they can't wrap their head around what a tariff is then a lesson in economics will probably make their head explode

Yep, my small business will not be fulfilling from the US any more. We will be operating out of the home country of the other founder. And I’m not even a big company who has to do real optimization for cost.

Trump’s policies are losing a lot of money for the US, and it will only get worse as companies that are slower to pivot get around to leaving.

This was entirely predictable and is quite gratifying.

What about the other 21 countries?

[–] stealth_cookies 11 points 6 days ago

The US tariffs are applied with no basis in reality. Unless you could somehow magically move the entire supply chain for goods into the US at once businesses' costs will go up with widespread tariffs applied. Because of how worldwide all supply chains are these days this is a completely impossible task. Not to mention the higher labour costs and lack of workers willing to do those jobs in the country.

Most businesses don't have the runway for an unstable business environment and it is in their best insterests to diversify out of uncertain markets. Hopefully we continue to see more companies look towards Canada as an option for serving their international customers. I'm all for incentivizing this as long as we aren't selling out the benefits of these companies bringing tax dollars into the country.

The company I work for is sending a few of my coworkers to train some people in mexico so they can take over some of our manufacturing so that it can be built in mexico and ship from there internationally, this is the first time in the almost 15 years that Ive worked here that we are moving manufacturing out of the US. the last time they had this idea was when trump put the first tariffs on china, the plan then was to build and test units here then take them apart and ship them to germany where we will fly to to rebuild it there then ship to china lol. We also killed a lot of our low tier products because its just not worth it to build and sell anymore so I guess thats good for new competitors to fill the void
