A Russian-registered cargo aircraft that has been grounded at Toronto Pearson Airport has been seized by the Canadian government, Global Affairs Canada announced on Saturday afternoon.

Of interest: the article reports that the jet has been grounded for a year at Pearson. The headline makes this sound a bit more dramatic than it may actually be.

Yeah, I wondered how a Russian plane snuck past the embargo, but I figure it's the big honking plane by the pickup/dropoff road.

Hah, I just drove by it on the way to the airport yesterday. It’s been a bit of a local celebrity since it got impounded last year. I imagine the cost to get it out of hock was higher than the plane is worth, airport parking is like $1/minute, which really adds up over a year!

took my first plane ride last may long weekend, landed in TO and saw this thing parked. seems its been there awhile now

Yep, apparently, it has been parked there since February 27, 2022.

I believe I read that the plane is going to be given to Ukraine once the war settles down.
