Subscription Pending (self.lemmy_ca_support)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by TheUtopianCat to c/lemmy_ca_support

Hi there - I joined Lemmy a few days ago and subscribed to a bunch of communities. A large number of them are still stuck on "Subscription Pending". Why is this? Is there any way I can get my subscriptions to go from pending to active? Thanks!

Edit: 2023-06-30: I'm still seeing this problem. :/

i've noticed this too, mostly with lemmy.ml communities. i was assuming it was because of their server being overloaded, and it looks like they have migrated to a new server now, but it still doesn't appear to be working. i will investigate some more.

are the communities you're having issues with mostly on the lemmy.ml instance? or others?

edit: just tried subscribing to a community from .ml from a different instance, and got the same issue. so i'm going to assume for now that it's an issue with their server.

They're mostly on the lemmy.ml instance, yes. One or two are beehaw.

I have to be honest, if this issue isn't resolved, I will be less likely to want to continue to use lemmy.

I just tested this with both beehaw and lemmy.ml communities, and both worked. the lemmy.ml just took a few seconds.

not sure why you wouldn't be able to click on the subscribe pending button. are you using an app or just using a browser?

I'm using a browser, Vivaldi, which is chromium based. I tried in Chrome, too, and same problem. I'd like to PM an admin on lemmy.ml, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. :/

Thank you for the help, btw. I appreciate it.

that's really strange. have you tried disabling any extensions you have enabled that may be interfering? not sure what else it could be.

you can try pm'ing them, but they I saw somewhere that they have huge backlogs of messages to go through and they are always busy working on the code itself too.

I've tried disabling my ad-blocker to see if that's the issue, but that didn't seem to have an affect. Thanks anyway though.

I'm having similar issues to OP (mostly lemmy.ml, although one lemmy.world too) and I'm using Firefox with just uBlock Origin enabled. Honestly it doesn't look to be a client issue since uBlock isn't blocking anything.

[–] smorks 2 points 2 years ago

i would guess it's an issue with .ml/.world, since it appears to be working with other instances.

Like others, I've literally had 'subscription pending' for days now on a few communities. All of them from lemmy.ml. It doesn't matter how many times I click and re-click, or how long I wait, it still just says 'subscription pending.'

[–] smorks 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yeah, it appears to be happening again. pretty sure it's an .ml specific issue (.world too maybe?) as subscribing to other instances works fine, and other instances are having the same issues with .ml as well.

The weird thing is, from my POV, it behaves as if I'm subscribed, and shows up in my list of subscribed communities, aside from the 'subscription pending' button.

I've had this a couple times. I think it's caused by some server load on the instance that's hosting the community.

I found you can just click the Pending button which removes the subscription and then just click it again to reapply the subscription. At that point it should instantly change to "Subscribed"

[–] TheUtopianCat 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

This doesn't work. "Subscription Pending" is just unclickable text, not a button.

I had to open up the community (just clicked the name in the community list) and then press the Subcribe Pending button. When I clicked the Subscribe button again, it looked like it wasn't doing anything but about 10 seconds later it switched to Joined.

I'd need to double-check but I believe that the subscription still works even though it shows as pending.

[–] TheUtopianCat 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, I tried that, too, but every time I did, it went to Subscribe Pending. :/ No luck. Thanks anyway.

I'm having the same issues - so it's not you and probably more systemic than it appears.

[–] kat 2 points 2 years ago

Going through that issue as well. It clears up in a while if I re-attempt the pending ones, but not always. :/ Worse on the android app

Worked fine for me.

[–] Zednix 3 points 2 years ago

I am still seeing this problem.

It just means that the servers next refresh your action of subscribing will be put into place. It will take like 10 seconds or so.

A thank you to @[email protected] for asking the question and to all of you folks here for providing the answers. This helped me out :)

[–] lightrush 2 points 2 years ago

In reality, I think the content from that community actually flows as if the subscription was successful.

FWIW I'm seeing this too, still, communities from lemmy.ml, beehaw and infosec.pub

[–] mikewavebird 1 points 2 years ago

I'm finding this too, and I'm finding that the behavior is different depending on the server, sometimes unsubscribing and resubscribing works, and other times it doesn't.

Also having this issue using Jerboa. I will attempt through a browser later.

I’m seeing this from lemmy.world trying to join lemmy.ca communities using another account. Found this: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2685
