These headlines are flashy and horrific, but miss the point. Hundreds or even thousands of people in these bad situations commit regular suicide per year. MAID is not the important factor here, because other than providing a more graceful process, it's not causing anything or ending up with different results.

You should see what applying for ODSP is like when your spouse has a mental illness and the doctor "doesn't have time" to sign the papers for 10+ years... I can completely understand this woman's position, and it is tragic.
I am, however, confused by these facts:
been a full-time wheelchair user since a diving accident when she was 17. single mother of three boys With no other way to earn an income
Where is the father(s)? Is she not getting child support from them?
The province's website says ODSP recipients currently receive up to $1,228 a month, but Frisina said that's not enough for most people with disabilities to live on.
That may be true, but she can also get benefits for each of her three kids, disability tax credit, low income support, etc. Sounds like she needs someone who knows what they are doing handling her case.

I'm very glad I don't have that experience! I know a couple people on ODSP and it's definitely a nightmare trying to apply and then managing all the restrictions they place on you.
I agree that some things are a little confusing about Rose's scenario in particular. And she definitely needs some help navigating the legal and tax side of all of this!
