Unfortunately they're by a Canadian author and I haven't seen them even at my local library even.

It's "The Power of a Playlist" and the workbook as well

I just bought two kindle books that were only available as ebooks and I didn't realize that it has been made so difficult to download them. Everything I search comes up with "download them before Feb. 25th!"

Has anyone got a work around for this? I have no desire to use the kindle app to read them and I HATE that I don't own these books to do as I please.

If I'm using lidarr with Windows can this still be done or is this a Linux only thing? I checked out the website for soularr and it looks like it's Linux or docker only.

This is one I'm really struggling with.

I'm willing to seperate my email to something like this (and pay for the space)

I'm willing to pay for Ente for photos

And I'm willing to pay for a different cloud service for storage

But my problem is that with Google, it's all in one and my wife and kids certainly aren't willing to fracture like that.

Is there a Canadian or European alternative that does it all much like Google or Apple?

Same with MB. Trips are on "pause". PD funding for conferences in the states is likely next (it happened last time during Trump 1.0 and the bathroom laws)

Late to the party here but I have 3 daughters all under 10 (and I'm the dad)

A few note worthy things :

Books My body is mine (read with them. Teaches them bodily autonomy) Brave, Not Perfect (read myself) And if you want to be frustrated with the world, read invisible women.

Activities. Ooo boy this one can be frustrating. Boys are lauded for their rambunctious behaviours and girls are told how pretty they are.

I include my daughters in EVERYTHING. Fixing the lawnmower? Who wants to come help?! Going to home depot? You bet I have anywhere from 1-3 little girls in tow with me (we've done this since birth and it gives mom a little break). I'm a music teacher by profession so none of these typically "manly" tasks are natural to me or part of my day to day. When I include my girls in home and vehicle maintenance, we get to learn together.

One of the things I've learned most is to just show them how they should be treated. How you treat their mother shows them how they should be treated by a partner from a very early age.

I take my daughters on dates, 1 on 1. I still date their mother, why shouldn't I include them for 1 on 1 time to strengthen our relationship. Granted, for the Mrs. it's restaurants or tickets to something. For my girls, it's Costco and ice cream (which they friggin love).

The proof is in the pudding. When my one daughter was 7 she started talking to me about boys with explicit instructions not to tell mom (mom asks too many questions). She felt comfortable sharing it with ME. There are not enough drugs in the world to replicate that "high".

Asking the question here is a great start. Keep trying to be the best man you can be (whatever that means to you) for your partner and daughter and they'll always be better off for it.

When in doubt, read, read, read. Ask questions and listen more than you talk. And for the love of god, don't be weird about periods and feminine products.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I used plex for free for the better part of a decade. Bought lifetime when a raise was coming and it was still $140 (kicking myself because at one point with a sale I was looking at something like $45).

I've used plex pass enough, and it's my main driver for all our entertainment outside of music and audiobooks that if they asked for some more money, I wouldn't care so much.

The ease of use, the UI, and remote access without having to jump through a bunch of hoops is worth it.

No shade to Jellyfin, but it's not nearly as dumb dumb friendly.

Check out https://www.playon.tv/

I've used it before. It's not quick but it works

[–] LoganNineFingers 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, that's fair haha. I'm talking home use for sure

Maybe. But switching from Windows to Mac, and again the opposite wasn't an issue. The learning curve was just changing the way my hands work with keyboard shortcuts. Functionality was so similar. Until Linux can get away from using terminal it'll be an issue. It may be anecdotal, but my anecdote is significantly more common than yours when you reach past Lemmy. Everything about Linux is awesome, except for the user experience itself and ease of use and it won't be mainstream until its structured in a way that makes it so. I'm very much pro FOSS and pro decentralization but I also only have so many hours in the day to be Sisyphus, pushing the rock up the hill of trying to understand Linux only to be in the same position and more frustrated than when I started.

And putting Linux as it is right now in schools will do no good. Kids are on phones. Right now, more than ever. They are used to and demand the easy os/app/website/etc.

For Linux to be a considerable contender for the average user, they need to make it more simple and like a Windows or Mac os.

I used Windows my whole life pretty much. Switching to Mac for a 5 year period was easy. Switching to Linux was easy. Using it was not. Installing a different distro was easy, using it was not. Rinse and repeat 3 more times and hello windows 11, looks like I'm using spyware. Because it just works.

On this line of thinking, are there any once a day mindfulness prompts? All I can seem to find are journaling apps, etc.

I just want a prompt at 6am to make me think about something positive to start my day

It boggles most of us too. Even the most conservative people in my circles are taking up anti American purchasing practices, uniting under the maple leaf. Even the most conservative people in my circles are looking to te liberal party as the only sane option (which is an entirely different conversation but the point is PP scares them)

Jacked-Up Jill Coffee (www.jackedupjill.com)

Everyone and their dog has a Canadian coffee they love and post here it seems but I'd argue Jacked-Up Jill is the best one. Manitoba roasted and owned, supports women's initiatives in MB. The owner travelled to the places she sources her beans from and buys from co-ops, etc. She has been and usually is in direct contact with the sources of her beans so she can stand behind her product personally.

Not sure if this counts as the material is sourced from overseas but it's Winnipeg owned and operated. Their Luxe line is the most comfortable clothing I own. They also take part in social and local initiatives.

I have broad shoulders and I find their Luxe clothing just fits better than the cheap off the rack stuff. On the zip and the long-sleeve I did have to size up from an xl to xxl

I've been perusing this community and it seems invite requests make up half or more of the posts. That said, it seems its the best way to get an invite. Anyone have one they could share with me? Thanks!

Can anyone eli5 how to do this with Sonarr and radarr?

I've perused the trash guides but I'm still unsure.

I just want all movies and tv to download with French in addition to English

Thanks!

Is this possible?

I have a hankering for some Left for Dead, Halo and Fable

So, a very kind person helped set me up with Usenet and while I understand some of it, some of it goes above my head. This person, set me up with buying TB blocks. So far, it has worked well. I try and buy them for $10USD when they go on sale but I missed the last one and I'm running out. They're $45usd regular!

My wife and I watch a lot of weekly recurring shows so it adds up quick. Between that and movies I probably go through a couple TB/year.

They have some unlimited plans though but I'm not familiar with some of the "perks".

Here's what I'm looking at

Any insight would be great.

Thanks!

Any info on getting content from Hoopla or Kanopy? I have a library membership but it is limited in use.

I installed a few different distros, landed on Cinnamon Mint. I'm not a tech dummy, but I feel I'm in over my head.

I installed Docker in the terminal (two things I'm not familiar with) but I can't find it anywhere. Googled some stuff, tried to run stuff, and... I dunno.

I'm TRYING to learn docker so I can set up audiobookshelf and Sonarr with Sabnzbd.

Once it's installed in the terminal, how the hell do I find docker so I can start playing with it?

Is there a Linux for people who are deeply entrenched in how Windows works? I'm not above googling command lines that I can copy and paste but I've spent HOURS trying to figure this out and have gotten no where...

Thanks! Sorry if this is the wrong place for this

EDIT : holy moly. I posted this and went to bed. Didn't quite realize the hornets nest I was going to kick. THANK YOU to everyone who has and is about to comment. It tells you how much traction I usually get because I usually answer every response on lemmy and the former. For this one I don't think I'll be able to do it.

I've got a few little ones so time to sit and work on this is tough (thus 5h last night after they were in bed) but I'm going to start picking at all your suggestions (and anyone else who contributes as well)

Thank you so much everyone! I think windows has taught me to be very visually reliant and yelling into the abyss that is the terminal is a whole different beast - but I'm willing to give it a go!

Hello all,

I'm a huge amateur when it comes to this stuff (I had a guy hold my hand on the phone and walk me through this) but I use Newsgroupdirect and buy blocks when they go on sale.

Is there a better group to do this from (or cheaper). I'm happy here but I saw an article that had some different places listed and it got me thinking.

Which group do you use?

I may be asking for a unicorn here but I've recently discovered that Lego does Christmas Village sets. I'm trying to get a few to do with my family and some of the ones I want are retired. People on Kijiji want $100 over the original price and I'm wondering if there is a better avenue to find these that doesn't support this system of buying sets and selling them sealed at the cost of my left one.

I don't really care if it's used, I just want to start a fun new tradition with my kids.

Alternatively, do retired sets come back into circulation again?

(I cross posted this on Plex too)

I'm looking to create an easy solution that is child/wife friendly. I'm hoping to get a set up going without internet. I however would like it to run like a Chromecast with plex.

I was thinking of a

Dell Optiplex 3020M Mini PC USFF, running windows 10

An external hard drive with content.

From here is where I have gaps. Could I set up a plex server offline on the device, with plex media player and use an Flirc remote with pre-programmed buttons?

Essentially, I'm trying to create the experience of watching Netflix on a Chromecast but with plex and a pc remote control of some sort (with pre-programmed buttons that load up content so kid and wife only have to press one or two buttons to get to their shows)

Thanks!
