https://338canada.com/record.htm

The 338Canada / Qc125 model has thus far covered 18 general elections in Canada. In total, 2,039 electoral districts were projected.

So far, the model has correctly identified the winner in 1,821 districts, a success rate of 89.3%.

Among the 218 remaining districts, 132 of the winners (6.5%) obtained a share of the vote that was within the projection's margin of error (moe). Only 86 districts (4.2%) were complete misses.

On this site, electoral districts are labelled according to the odds of winning by the projected favourite party. If a party's odds of winning are at or above 99.9% (formerly 99.5%), the district is labelled as safe. Between 90% and 99.9%, the district is likely. Between 70% ad 90%, we use the label leaning. Finally, if no party has odds above 70%, the district will be labelled as a toss up.

Here below is the complete breakdown of correct and incorrect winners from safe, likely, leaning and toss up districts:

I did my part meme. Toronto here. Arrived to advance polls mid-afternoon on Good Friday. Waited 30 min to vote. Lines were twice as long when I left. Similar reaction to others here: I've never seen advance voting this busy before. (It being a Stat holiday is probably a factor too.) If you don't want to wait long, go to advance voting, and go at a strategic time. I am guessing - and hope too - that turnout will be really big this year. Polls might be super busy on election day.

It sounds like you're going through a real tough time. You're welcome to message me if you need someone to talk to.

Thank you for all the fortitude, love, and cuteness you spread on c/TanEggs. I love your posts!

This. But I feel it's a problem for me. I have a brother who votes Conservative. And I just have a hard time with it because the party's platforms aren't actually in his and his family's interests, but I think as a white man he feels they speak to him and he likes the simplicity (eg, Fuck Trudeau, immigrants are raising the cost of living). After years of listening to Joe Rogan, it's predictable probably. But I have a hard time relating to him. I need to think about how to approach our next conversation. Because I think he's so dumb, and it riles me up (!!!) because this is democracy, not just his shitty taste in podcasts (ie, JR). /ventover

Great picture of Bedford in '23 in its depiction of the effects of climate change. I hadn't seen, which is a me thing. But it makes me think that these pics (e.g., Canadian ones) should be shared a lot to increase awareness of the reality of climate change

Saskatchewan’s health minister has rejected accusations from a nurses union and the Opposition NDP that some babies from Regina’s neonatal intensive care unit were sent to North Dakota for care.

I'm glad I could be of some help! It'd be nice to have more, but online forums can provide meaningful interaction and support.

I think your nervousness about antipsychotic side effects is entirely reasonable. Ideally, you have a healthcare provider whom you trust, who listens to your concerns, and guides drug and dosing accordingly. I'm of the opinion that the benefits of exploring medication outweigh the risks for most people with schizophrenia-like conditions. If there are certain side effects (e.g., weight gain, effects on sexual function, ticks and tremors) that you're particularly worried about, this would be good information to bring to an appointment - as there are many different types of medication available, and their side effect profiles differ. Just putting this out there: if you go to a medical clinic and explain your schizophrenia-like symptoms (ie, hallucinations and delusions), I think you'll likely get a referral and be prioritized for a service that at the very least can prescribe and supervise medication management and, hopefully, can connect you with some talk and/or social services that aren't pay-out-of-pocket.

It's been nice connecting. Keep your stick on the ice.

This is the same bogus and weaponizable logic that legitimate criticism of Israel's genocide = 'antisemitism' is. If you want to call legitimate criticism of the illegal and unethical actions of this POTUS administration 'hate for America', the notion that deportations (of US-born people) are going to ramp up shortly just became very real for me

Tanks :) I'll check it out

Unfortunately, no, I'm not aware of any alternate platform to imdb. I use Wikipedia for movie info, but it doesn't have fan/ user reviews, etc.

What animals do you like? (self.casualconversation)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by streetfestival to c/[email protected]

Name an animal (or several) you like and mention why you like it. No wrong answers!

TIL. I knew there were many vegetarians in India. I just learned that that vegetarianism excludes chicken eggs, which as a North American caught me off-guard. I looked at a couple webpages, which means I'm an expert on the topic now /s

https://www.thejuggernaut.com/eggetarianism-india-eggs-vegetarianism

Many assume that India is a country of vegetarians, but that’s miles from the truth: 69% of Indians eat meat, and about 23% are egg eaters. Of this latter group, 9% identify as “eggetarians,” or vegetarians who eat eggs.

https://hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/2601/why-are-eggs-not-consumed-by-many-hindus

Moral Reason: I have been taught that one reason such eggs are not considered suitable for consumption is that by preventing fertilization you are preventing the birth of an animal, which is considered unjust by some. The reasoning here is that blockading the creation of life is similar if not equal to extinguishing it.

Vedic Reason: According to Wikipedia's article on Sattvic diet, an unfertilized egg is considered Rajasic, or overly stimulating. Such foods are not to be consumed as they lead to an unfit state of mind.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program also includes Pearson Airport, Air Canada and Metrolinx

It's a simple concept: transit riders in Mississauga with a hidden disability wear a sunflower lanyard — but the hope is that it makes a big difference for people living with a disability.

"You wear something that doesn't point out that you are different or that you have special needs, it isn't obvious," explains Doris Cooper, a member of Mississauga's transit advisory committee and a participant in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program.

The City of Mississauga recently joined the program, making it Canada's first municipal transit provider to become a member.

The lanyard is meant to discreetly inform transit staff that the rider may need more help or time. It also aims to support and improve the travel experience of riders with hidden disabilities, making their trips smooth, seamless and respectful.

Artist Marie LeBlanc Flanagan has designed an arcade-style video game that invites players to try their luck at cycling Toronto’s city streets without bike lanes.

The simple game, dubbed “Loser Lane,” allows users to make just two key strokes — left and right — as they maneuver their cyclist avatar through Toronto’s city streets.

Dangers that can end the game include cars, car doors and streetcar tracks.

As a cyclist, the artist said she was infuriated by Premier Doug Ford’s announcement that he would be removing bike lanes from Toronto streets so she poured her energy into creating the video game.

Canadian cities, towns forced to adapt, or abandon outdoor skating trails and rinks

In 2023, it wasn't cold enough in Ottawa to skate on the Rideau Canal. In 2024, it was only cold enough in Winnipeg to allow skating on its rivers for nine days.

What used to be taken for granted in Canada — winter weather cold enough to allow skating on rivers and ponds — has become a meteorological throw of the dice, thanks to the long-term effects of climate change coupled with the natural variability of weather from year to year.

David Phillips, a climatologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said winters have warmed in Canada by an average of 4 C over the past 77 years. Over the past decade alone, he said, Canada has lost an average of two to three weeks of sub-zero temperatures.

"The result of that is that you can't grow ice," Phillips said in an interview on Monday from his home in Barrie, Ont. "That's why people are seeing things they haven't seen when they were youths, when it would be automatic by a certain date that you'd go skating on the Rideau Canal or on the Red River."

The three-time Grand Slam doubles champion shared her story on social media, disclosing that she played through her diagnosis in a year she won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

"I know this will come as a shock to many, but I am OK and I will be OK," Dabrowski wrote in an Instagram post. "Early detection saves lives. I can wholeheartedly agree with this."
