Rules and Guidelines

1. No BigotryIncluding racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

2. Be CivilArgue in good faith, attack the argument; not the person, and promote a healthy debate. That includes implying violence, threats or wishes of violence and/or death.

3. No PornThis instance is not made to host porn communities. You're free to access porn communities on other instances through your account, but be mindful of Rule 4.

4. Use the NSFW tagUse your common sense: if you wouldn't want this image to show up on your work computer, tag it as such. In comments, use the
spoiler ::: tag for NSFW images, and put a NSFW mention beside links. Do not use NSFW images as your avatar or banner. :::
5. No Ads / SpamThis instance is not there to act as your billboard. If you want to promote your personal work, at least make the effort to be a contributing member of this community. Your account purpose shouldn't be to only advertise, make it natural.

6. Bot accountIf you are the operator of a "bot" account, make sure to flag is as such in the account's settings.

7. Right to privacyDo NOT distribute the personal information of someone else without their consent (aka doxxing). Information that is public domain can be shared, provided it is in good faith.
ex: The official email of an elected official is fair, the private phone number or the real name of a non-public person is NOT.

8. Report abuseThe report function isn't labelled the disagree button. You might not agree with someone, but that doesn't mean what the person says is against the rules. Using it repeately in this fashion will lead to actions being taken against the reporter.

9. ImpersonationDon't make an account with the intent to negatively deceive or defame someone on the fediverse.
ex: Parody of a famous person is okay, submitting outrageous content as appearing like another user, mod or admin isn't.

I was originally trying to post this on Reddit but there I immediately received hate comments and seconds later my whole account got banned and censored. (Idk why Reddit is like this and hopefully it's somewhat better here).

That's why I'm trying to post this here now since I think it's a valid and interesting scientific question.

This is the original post I just tried to publish on Reddit:

So many months ago I came up with this thought experiment how someone could prove the many worlds theory/quantum immortality by killing themselves hundreds of times depending on the state of a quantum object.

At that time I asked this question here on Reddit and to me it had well reasoned logic. But basically every comment I received was in complete denial and immediately rejected this. They were basically bashing me that my thesis is absolutely stupid. And the arguments that some used to disprove me didn't make sense to me.

What let me to post this now is that I just saw this video from Kurzgesagt on YouTube that was literally making the exact same argument I did (which really disappointed me since everyone was doubting me and now as this big respected YouTuber states it people probably agree with it): https://youtu.be/7wK4peez9zE

Maybe Reddit is not the right place to discuss topics like this cause I feel like many people answering aren't even familiar with what this is about. Maybe you can recommend another space for such discussion (maybe Quora is viable)?

Anyways maybe now some will agree with this thesis. To summarize the basic point I was making:

Basically I argued that you could test and potentially prove many worlds/quantum immortality by measuring the spin of an electrone. If it's up you do nothing, if it's down you kill yourself. If many worlds would be true you could repeat this infinitively without dying since you only die in the world where the spin is down but every time it's down, there will be an up in another world where you stay alive. Like they argued in the video it would basically be enough to do it a 100 times since those odds already would be 1 in 10⁷⁰. Therefore you basically prove in your world that many worlds/quantum immortality is true. Of course you can only be 99.9̅% certain it isn't luck but almost every theory in physics is only estimating nature and isn't revealing the core truth of reality.

Update: Okay I wasn't expecting people to still doubt this. So would you say the video is wrong as well?

This is a copy of page 82 of the annual report by Ireland’s data protection commission:

Use of CCTV in restrooms

Throughout 2023, the DPC received numerous queries and complaints from individuals about organisations’ use of CCTV in restrooms or areas where a high expectation of privacy exists (see Annual Report 2023).

The DPC engaged with these organisations on a one-to-one basis and also updated its guidance on the use of CCTV by data controllers to include a specific section on “The use of CCTV in areas of an increased expectation of privacy”. QR 2 This was aimed at clarifying the position of the use of CCTV in areas where individuals have a heightened expectation of privacy. In addition, the DPC contacted the relevant industry bodies to inform them of the update with the DPC’s guidelines.

As a consequence of this guidance, in 2024 the DPC noted a considerable reduction in concerns raised by the public about CCTV in restrooms or areas where a high expectation of privacy exists.

The DPC intended to engage with small and medium sized enterprises throughout 2025 on similar issues to deliver clear and practical guidelines to assist these organisations in meeting their compliance responsibilities in a proportionate and balanced manner.

Seems bizarre that it would even end up in the DPA’s hands; as if people don’t have enough sense to instantly see the GDPR problem and correct it as fast as possible.

I suppose it could be due to only ~⅓ of complaints getting action from the Irish DPA.

Medical device associations behind a lawsuit challenging a Library of Congress exemption to the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions, have failed to have the exemption ruled illegal. Motions for summary judgment from both sides went in favor of the defendants after a district court judge found that the exemption, granted for the maintenance and repair of medical devices, permits a non-infringing, transformative fair use.

FATCA specifically oppresses Americans who live outside the US. It strong-arms banks into treating Americans adversely different based on their national origin (ranging from denial of service to extra data collection and disclosure). I thought Americans were the only people who broadly face discrimination in banking due to their nationality. But I recently heard of other nationalities (not Americans) who are refused bank access due to their nationality (in Europe, where we might have a high expectation of human rights).

I could never get the details. People that report this to me have been vague. But I’ve heard it twice now. Does anyone know the specifics? Which nationalities and why?

(original article)

‘[...] There now seems to be movement on what action the EU can take: the partial suspension of Horizon Research does not require the support of all 27 countries. For that, a "qualified majority" of member states is sufficient. That means 55 per cent of member states must agree. These countries must represent at least 65 per cent of the EU population.’
