I wish to understand what elements or aspects of the design of modern websites the end users are annoyed from. Though you are free to express your personal opinions, it would be even more insightful if you could provide objective criticism and suggestions for alternative implementations so that I may incorporate the same in my current and future projects to make them as user friendly as possible.

Some criticisms I have encountered a while back include:

• Switches being basically checkboxes with more ambiguous active state
• Scrolling animations that prohibit user from linearly scrolling through the page

Make sure that the opinion is not

• Related to business/legal matters e.g. Cookie consent notices, ad banners etc.
• Too vague e.g. Poor website layout
• Highlighting objectively bad practices e.g. Lack of accessibility features

I recognise I could have followed a design system for this question, but I want to understand the situation from the perspective of the end users to see if they have a differing view on what a convenient user experience should be like.

(Question) To my global human allies and to my fellow inhabitants of the land of fiefdom, what is your breaking point?

At what point does the enshitification, or the grift, or the lies, or the hate, or the multitude of grievances thrust upon us become too much? What do you do when it all becomes too bleak to bear? (Question over)

For those of us planning protest I would advise you to bring PPE (safety goggles, basic first aid, etc.) Try not to bring your phone, and if you must record try a dedicated camera/camcorder. Wear common, ambiguous clothing free of branding. Wear clothing that does not allow your body type to be profiled. Let those who know you well, and that you trust know where you're going and have a plan in case you're injured or incarcerated. Try, if possible, to have an ingress/egress plan that does not involve a registered vehicle. This is not a comprehensive list, but it's what I can think of off the top of my head?

For those of us planning less civil means of protest, I cannot help you on this forum.

For those of us not in the position to take action, direct or indirect, please advocate and support those who can.

Most importantly, know that you are not alone. Foster community, identify the leaders among us, identify your goals and plan to achieve them.

tldr; Basically what I'm looking for is the digital way of selling a dvd, which was the previous way we had to make some extra money for the club.

We've created a few videos from a gymnastics show for kids and we're looking to try to use those to get some extra money into the club. I once asked a similar question on a different Lemmy account and they were telling me I’m racist for being against racism. How does this make sense? I’m pretty sure white supremacy is a real thing and I think it’s important to speak up about it. Why do you think this is still an issue? Do people not care about it?

I am dysgraphic and use a keyboard for input as much as possible. I am taking a math class that has a lot of text mixed in with a lot of math symbols. I would love to be able to use my microsoft surface with a keyboard to type out symbols like ∈ and ∀.

How was this translated to metric?

I work remote, but occasionally have to travel to New York City for in-office events. During these events I sit in a conference room with the rest of my team all day. We usually have a team dinner planned during the week or something.

Tuesday I got into New York and later that night we went out to dinner. This ended up going until 10:30pm, which is pretty late for me (I usually am in bed by 10). It was also announced that day that we would go bowling today (Wednesday). After a day of sitting in a conference room for 8 straight hours, I really didn't feel like going out with my coworkers or drinking beer til 10 or 11 at night. I told my coworkers I was going to skip it because I wanted to go to the gym and I made something up about having to file my taxes by tonight, but I think they generally understood that I just didn't want to go.

I also was never explicitly invited; we were just told "we are going bowling on Wednesday", so I think there was the expectation that I go, but I strongly feel that nobody should be obligated to go to an after-work event (especially since I already went to one).

How would you handle the situation? How do you get out of these kinds of events?

To clarify: I'm obviously going to stay at a job if it pays like 10 times what I normally make. Let's assume the job just pays average, and the position is just particularly awful even compared to similar ones.

Of course I guess "hating" a job can take many forms... Being in a dead-end job, having toxic managers/coworkers, bad location, etc...

For some context, we are first generation immigrants. My parents are Russian, my mother and her husband have been living here for 20 years (even got rid of Russian citizenship couple years ago), my biological father is still living in Russia.

It's damn exhausting to discuss political topics with them, especially my father. He keeps telling me how great it is to live in Russia, how their economy is doing great and how he's proud that they are defending their "brothers" in Donezk and Luhansk from the evil bandera regime in Ukraine.

My mom voted far right in the past election. She doesn't believe she voted for nazis, but the party's views on economics, climate policy and immigration seem to align with hers. She believes wind farms are harmful for the environment. What the actual fuck.

Whenever I try to argue with them, they tell me that I've been brainwashed by "Western propaganda".

I'm at a loss. I love my parents and I know that nobody's immune to propaganda, but it's heartbreaking to see them holding these toxic beliefs. How would you deal with parents like these? Should I just declare to never talk about politics with them again since it's pointless?
