No?
But we’re getting a Prime Minister who’s about to leave office who suddenly thinks it’s a good idea.
Personally, I’d like to see him make some effort to do some more of the things he promised to do when he was first elected.
For instance, ranked voting in the next election would be awesome.
Oct 2024 - Proposal selection
Oct 2023 - RFP
Feb 2023 - RFQ
Oct 2022 - RFEOI
Budget 2016 through 2021 - Preliminary work
This train project is not a thing Trudeau suddenly wanted for the election.
It's been in the works for years, so I wouldn't say it's relevant to Trudeau leaving office. In fact, him leaving office means he can't ensure that the project goes forward, since the incoming PM could easily cancel it. This is only an announcement that the government has said the project is ok, not that it's going to happen.
Wouldn't that be a nice fuck you to the cons on the way out...
The cons wouldn’t be upset as instant run-off ranked ballots enables the 2-party system more so than first-past-the-post.
That's complete BS and you know it. I know that STV isn't your preferred election system, but in every jurisdiction that has switched from FPTP to STV, it has led to more diverse and viable candidates.
Justin Trudeau doesn’t support the single transferable vote.
Not all ranked choice is instant run off though.
However most of the time when people are talking about ranked voting that’s what they mean.
We would discuss the term single transferable vote instead.
