Look, we need to be independent from the US. That means selling our oil to other nations in Europe and Asia, ok?
If that means you need to breathe in more acrid smoke from the nation-wide wildfires the size of a small continent, then that's a sacrifice you need to make for your country.
I mean, are you a true red blooded Canadian, or not? Where's your patriotism?
(/S of course)
I mean, you’re being sarcastic but yes Canada’s sovereignty comes first in my list of priorities right above the climate crisis. I don’t even like to entertain the idea but there’s no way we’d see any green energy under a US occupation of Canada
Edit: from what I’ve read, Carney is big on green energy anyway. Might not be taking the headlines but it’s there
Not only Canada 51st won't be able to do anything about climate change, but the EU won't do as much as needed if there's no stability. And the US is now radiating instability. One huge vulnerability that the EU has dependence on US gas. If we replace the US gas, we can both decouple some of our gas export from the US, we can solve the vulnerability of the EU. And no they can't get off gas, at least not completely and not immediately. Perhaps we can also help stop UK's Drax from burning Canadian forests for power too. If we can shore up Canada's and the EU's stability we may be able to resume doing something about climate change. The bulk of the work would probably still be done by China though.
