I recently heard that the center of a fig is actually a dead wasp. That seemed unlikely, but I googled it. Turns out, it's not true. But it's closer to being true than you might expect.

I was a little worried about the crunchiness, but have been reassured it's indeed just seeds.

I mean, that article says it is true. It's not a live or a whole wasp, but there is a wasp used to grow the fig. It's just broken down in such a way that it's impossible to distinguish the waspy bits from the figgy bits. Like when you eat nachos. Eventually, some part of you will be made of nachos, but it would be impossible to tell those parts apart from another other parts.

Doctors estimate that I am approximately 8% nachos by now, but you're right, we have a devil of a time distinguishing the nachos from all the non-nacho stuff that keeps me alive like blood and oxygen and Krokodil

Yes, but we don't say "your ham has a tuna hoagie in it" because someone tossed the pig a tuna hoagie one time.

Maybe you don’t. Is this the royal we?

I feel fairly confident that the proportion of people who would say such a thing is vanishingly small.

Ever meet a hog farmer?

Yeah. Neither have I

I was told as a child that the crunch was dead ants. Why any adult would ruin fig newtons for a kid is beyond me.

I love figs so much, I'd still eat them even if they were full of wasps.
