Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

749 readers
46 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

Apparently, bringing up China being authoritarian is now "bigotry". Makes sense now all those comments from .ml users that most people banned from .ml are for bigotry.

"Bigotry" = Anything negative about China or Russia now

No way!

Oh wait, it's on Lemmy.ml, yeah, carry on then! /s :-P

BPR if you were aware of the instance and its reputation. PTB otherwise. Getting a ban from ML for this sort of thing is a something of a right of passage I think lol.

You know the crazy thing? They'll follow you around for months afterwards as well.

What's the 'whinnie the pooh thing'?

[–] [email protected] 42 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It became a meme to depict Xi Jinping as Winnie the Pooh, and China / Xi's response was to completely ban all depictions or mentions of Winnie the Pooh.

There are many, many other words and phrases that just get scrubbed from any online post... these are called 'Sensitive Words'.

Chinese meme where they compared him to Winni, he cracked down it, the west loved it and adopted it too.

Tankies try to say it’s racist as if it represents all Asians and not just Xi personally, and it originated from China, so it’s doubly not about his ethnicity.

At some point Xi got associated with Winnie the Pooh and imagery of it (usually of Winnie's face being "morphed" into Xi's face) became censored/banned in China

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Because he looks a lot like Winnie the Pooh. The shape of his face and body, his gait, his smile, it's really uncanny.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I once saw a comment on Hexbear about it being racist to call Xi Winnie the Pooh. I got confused and asked why would that be racist. I got laughed at for not seeing that he's clearly called that because Pooh is yellow, which is also a derogatory term for asians. And this never even crossed my mind until then, I always assumed he's called that cause he literally looks like Pooh and wears red (figuratively). Are they reaching or am I wrong?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

More than just reaching, they're witch hunting.

See, a lot of muppets have that nasty tendency to point to random people or things, and claim that they're from a despicable group: racists, transphobes, paedophiles, so goes on ("the witches").

And those muppets do this through insane troll logic, zero due diligence, making shit up = assuming on the spot, Chewbacca defence, dogpiling, distorting what you said, so goes on. (And if you correctly highlight that there are no witches there, they'll start screeching "WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING WITCHES?")

That's on the whole internet, mind you. And even offline. But for some reason, it's really common among Hexbear users. And this Xi = Pooh meme is a prime example of that; they want to point people using this meme and scream "WAAAH, YOU'RE RACIST!", even if the bloody meme was created by Chinese people, and the criticism is not really related to race. Later they scream "DONE, WE DID IT ~~REDDIT~~ HEXBEAR, WE DEFEATED RACISM! EDIT WOW THANKS FOR THE ~~GOLD~~ PIG POOP BALLS, KIND STRANGER!"

I'm fairly certain that they're full of GoOd InTeNtIoNs when they do this. And they should be paving Hell with those intentions because they're making things worse for every bloody body, except the witches - that now got a believable cover: "nooo, I'm no witch, they're just reaching. BTW let's fly on a broom together."

[Sorry for the wall of text.]

Obama is not orange or striped. It makes no sense

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

I wouldn't have put that together, either. Winnie the Pooh is yellowish brown.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If that person on hexbear has yellow poo they ought to see a doctor

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

proper nomenclature when referring to the dear leader is shepooh, thanks.

Apparently, bringing up China being authoritarian is now “bigotry”.

I've noticed this lately in a lot of communities I'm in, most of which that have nothing to do with politics and are centered around Linux/technology. Why are people suddenly getting personally hurt over criticism against their government? Thats the wildest thing I've ever seen, and for some reason it's becoming more of a thing.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago

It's a thing on lemmy.ml communities, not so much elsewhere

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The funny thing is, it's not even their government. They're defending an idealized version that only exists in their heads. As far as I can tell, the primary developers are European.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago

It's So many people 😮‍💨 their entire personalities revolve around politics these days

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 weeks ago

I gotta say, it's really gracious of the mod to only ban you for 3 months. Usually it's a perma-ban.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Where do you check such things? So where do you find this?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

You have to go to the mod logs of each instance and search for your username.

The system is setup so you are shadowbaned until you figure it out yourself.

The mods of blahaj constantly lurk other instances banning everyone they don't like even if they didn't post there.

I'm sure there are plenty of other pathetic mods in the fediverse.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

is it a shadow ban? i think the last time my comment showed up with a little crossed out avatar.

my guess was that this was to indicate that .ml banned me, however they cannot stop me from posting as i am on a different instance. just probably not many ppl seeing the comment.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Holy shait I have a TON of bans on .ml without ever posting anything there, 18 just on one day 17 days ago!

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

You did comment there. You commented apologia for the Israeli genocidal settler-colonial state's apartheid, specifically a physical apartheid wall. And your comment was removed, and you were site banned for... looks like 45-ish days.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah interesting, did not notice that was on .ml. But this topic is generally a big No-Go on Lemmy, no discussion possible. I tend to avoid it now.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If you want to defend Zionism, you'll have better luck on corporate social media, which are generally aligned with US foreign policy. Lemmy was created specifically as an alternative to that.

Oooh this is fun, apparently my posts about bicyclists going the wrong way down streets at night without lights while wearing black were misinformation, regardless of seeing another 3 in the last week alone.

Mods are funny little rentacops aren't they

50% YDI / 50% PTB

YDI, as these comments were obviously bad faith trolling with the sole purpose of starting flame war. None of the comments in the screenshot can be considered a valuable contribution to the discussion in the technology community.

PTB, for made up "bigotry" as a reason for the ban. If they had banned you for trolling, it would have been 100% YDI.
