Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

RESPONSE FROM THE 196 MODS (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

For the people that unfollowed or blocked 196, the mods have made a post there

Edit: o right and also in the .world comm, I forgot about that X3 https://lemmy.world/post/24479792

Edit 2: 196 IS NOW (partly for now due to federation issues) UNLOCKED https://lemmy.world/post/24481114 but of course under the same moderators even tho many people r insisting that they shouldnt be trusted after all that happened, I'd personally keep using this alternative comm for now

That post cracked me up, with their no real apology or accountability but practically begging the community to come back to them, and talk of "fracturing" the fediverse lmfao, clearly made after and because they realised hardly anyone was following them to their new home, and not just because of what instance it's on, but because they showed their asses as mods, and people don't want to deal with their bullshit lol

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago

It's funny bc I see their mouths moving, but it's spez's words that come out!?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They knew no one was going to follow them, which is why they closed the one on blahaj. I guess they thought that if they didn't give people a choice...? But users always have a choice.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Right, and especially on the fediverse (which is why them talking about those who didn't follow them being the ones to "fracture" it was so hysterical😂)

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 week ago (2 children)

seems like theyre going to have another "internal vote" to see what theyll do with 196 now, but not right now cuz most of them arent online atm

so I guess we'll sillypost here in the meantime until they have another response :P

I do hope the og 196 opens up again. If not at least we will have this. Thanks for opening this btw OP 👍

The stupidest part was that they said lemmy.dbzer0.com and lemm.ee would have been good choices too. Ok? why didn't you choose those? why fucking .world of all places???

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tbh, speaking as a dbzer0 resident, if they dislike Ada they would fucking hate div0. I like it here, but he's kinda been nuts for a while and I've been passively looking around at other instances just in case he goes off the deep end one day.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

As a fellow resident of dbzer0, what should I be worried about? I seem to have missed something.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I don't think there's anything to be worried about. It's just obvious from interacting with him that the power is going to his head. My opinion is that his personality is similar to Dansup in that he's good at what he does, does not play well with others, but is still capable of self-reflection and understands that surrounding himself with yes-men leads to insane decisions.

The most recent drama was that a few months back div0 pissed off the Hexbear mods by going onto their boards and being a shit to the tankies. They were debating defederating from us for a bit, but decided that it didn't make sense to punish users at the bottom for the behavior of one admin. After all, a good chunk of dbzer0 are here because we like having limitable interaction with the folks on hexbear but dont want to surround outselves with social credit score deniers and stalin apologists. div0 is blocked from hexbear now afaik.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah seriously. I haven't seen anything worrying?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for opening this btw OP 👍

if u mean this comm, Im not the one that opened it X3

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

I see, i learned of this comm through your previous post for mods so i assumed so. Either way, thank you for helping spread awareness about this :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

yay! u gotta love getting included in the decision-making process /s

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago

'but but but we made a google doc with our reasons!'

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago

You can make a 196 anywhere you want, you just need proper mods.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

so this is how i learn that someone thought it was a brilliant idea to let moderators set an alias for their communities

i thought these two communities were the same for several minutes, being extremely confused as to how it had different moderators depending on the tab i was looking at..
