They could not possibly care less. They have awesome jobs, gold standard publicly funded healthcare, access to insider trading information, and they’re about to get a sweet tax cut. If they get fired, they’ll just turn coat and become lobbyists.

The rot has reached the core, ladies and gentlemen.

Elitism is a great label for people you don't want to work with. This is gonna be great.

That's what happens when the country is being turned into a fascist state and people being sent to camps, while the majority of them are mumbling about midterms and trying not to rock the boat.

At this point they are complicit in the downfall of America. Although I'm sure they'll be happy when they retire somewhere else in the world with a big bank account.

US fealty to other countries over American interests every time. Israel, China, EU states, it doesn't matter. If it's good for the corporate hegemon - and because money is speech now - you get a predictable result. We're living through corporate oligarchy. One of the biggest corporations (by value) in the history of the world has its CEO siting in the Whitehouse directing our government functions. He's in charge of firing federal employees. It's clear as day, corporations run our government. Not reven a recent phenomena - lobbyist have been doing it forever with increasing success since Regan / 80s era. We're fucked, it's all downhill from here. The fall of the American empire is probably closer than we all think.

The Democrats are part of that machine. With few exceptions they are willing participants in the process.

Good, give away two supreme Court seats, neglect to put protections into law and abdicate congressional authority to the executive is solidly on their shoulders. The Republicans have been very public with their goals for decades and the Democrats still insisted they could negotiate.

[–] [email protected] 67 points 1 day ago

This is why you don’t negotiate with terrorists.

We're going to vote for them again in the next election in the name of "harm reduction" or "being realistic" and they're going to keep doing the same feckless shit over and over again.

I’m in a safe blue state. I’m seriously considering leaving parts of my federal ballot blank or doing a write-in if people outside of the old guard don’t win the primaries.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

i usually do this since democrats are usually successful in getting anyone besides the republicans and themselves off the ballot.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You think we're still gonna have elections by then?

Anyway, yes, harm reduction and dragging the overton window left is preferable . A company that builds crematoriums was an exhibitor at the Board Security Expo earlier this month.

But even more preferably, these old farts need to get primaried out.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

democrats don't move the Overton window left.

Yes and? I've shared this exact meme.

(Ideally)Right now, we have time to primary the old guard out, but if it came down to voting for an asshole and voting for a Nazi, I'll vote for the asshole, because abstaining in protest will only help the Nazi get in.

trump is going to fuck it up again enough to make him lose the next election and there'll be a democrat in charge for a while who will keep doing most of the same things as trump.

Jeffries is trying really hard not to understand how bad he is. In the article he's quoted as saying something like it's because of Trump's policies that people are getting turned off. How intentionally oblivious is that. Everyone knows that it's hard to stop Trump when you're in the minority, everyone sympathizes with that. But everyone also knows you have a duty to try really hard, and you didn't try at all, and that's your fault. It's time for you to retire.

People also remember how, when the Democrats were the majority party, the Republican minority could somehow obstruct, delay and water down anything they proposed that even approached being progressive policy that would help large numbers of working class people, yet the Dems have somehow forgotten all those tactics that were used against them to great success now that they find themselves the minority party.

Maybe in Order to get BETTER Polling they should Slide FURTHER Right? They MIGHT be able To Get Democrats BACK if they just go FURTHER Right!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They just haven't reached out to moderates and Republicans hard enough!!!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Maybe if they support genocide even harder, do even less to hold wealthy criminals accountable, throw even more minorities under the bus, and get a few more Cheneys on board, they will peel off exactly one republican vote.

Aw, who am I kidding? They would happily do that regardless of how few votes they got.

[–] [email protected] 56 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Dealing with an emergency and all they have is old men who don’t have what it takes to take on the rabid GOP. Never understood why the US system is dominated by such old people.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Seats on committees and chairmanships are determined by seniority.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Only because that's the way the Democratic party decides it is. Republicans don't follow the same practice. These are informal rules agreed upon internally, not anything legally binding

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

One of the great “traditions” that’s been holding our government together like duct tape and bailing wire

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

And to get seniority you need to stay in office and to stay in office you need money and to get stable money you need corporate money and there's always something they want in return.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Committees need to have more formal rules involved... The way they're currently set up is poor at best

[–] ininewcrow 12 points 1 day ago

They should just gate the whole American leadership and treat it like a giant old age home at this point

Tell them all that they've been sworn in for a lifetime and just pump them all with anti psychotic drugs, pretend that they are actually doing things and having meetings and just contain them all for the rest of their lives.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 1 day ago

Yeah, because they suck as Democrats. They aren't even good Republicans. They are just greedy, unappealing people who don't have a conscience when they have to do their job of representing their constituents.

Democratic leadership also sucks so they would rather keep their like-minded predators than have anyone with empathy and personality gain a leadership role.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The poll surveyed 1,006 adults across the U.S. and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, at the 95 percent confidence level.

Not a very good poll, IMO. However:

Of fucking course their polling is low. They've sat with their thumbs up their ass this entire presidency. That's after running a terrible presidential campaign, that came on the coattails of another terrible presidential campaign, that came on the coattails of a terrible presidency.

My surprise level: 0%

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Thats a perfectly reasonable sample size and margin of error. The margin of error for a given confidence level and standard deviation is proportional to 1/sqrt(n) so in order to get the margin of error down from 4% points to 2% they would need to quadruple the number of people polled. However this is worthless if you cannot attribute for systematic errors with a better precision.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago

Sucks to suck, you bunch of grifters.
