Cory Doctorow put it more eloquently in Pluralistic: Predicting the present:

And while Americans shoot people they've only just gotten angry at, they also sometimes plan shooting sprees and kill a bunch of people because they're just generically angry. Being angry about the state of the world is a completely relatable emotion, of course, but the targets of these shootings are arbitrary. Sure sometimes these killings have clear, bigoted targets – mass shootings at Black supermarkets or mosques or synagogues or gay bars – more often the people who get sprayed with bullets (at country and western concerts or elementary schools or movie theaters) are almost certainly not the people the gunman (almost always a man) is angry at.

One day, as I was swimming in the community pool across the street – a critical part of my pain management strategy – I was struck with a thought: "Why don't these people murder health insurance executives?" Not that I wanted them to. I don't want anyone to kill anyone. But why do American men who murder their wives and the people who cut them off in traffic and random classrooms full of children leave the health insurance industry alone? This is an industry that is practically designed to fill the people who interact with it with uncontrollable rage. I mean, if you're watching your wife or your kid die before your eyes because some millionaire CEO decided to aim for a $10 billion stock buyback this year instead of his customary $9 billion target, wouldn't you feel that kind of murderous rage?

But the assassination of Brian Thompson is a wake-up call, a warning that if we don't solve this problem politically, we may not have a choice about whether it's solved with violence. As a character in "Radicalized" says, "They say violence never solves anything, but to quote The Onion: that's only true so long as you ignore all of human history".

You know that bullshit gets tired.

People acting like the armed left isn't preparing.

Like, motherfuckers, the loud 2a advocates were all right wing. The motherfuckers this fake motherfucker is whining about are the ones backing this shit.

But, more important, why does every motherfucker shooting their mouth off about this think that you win a fucking civil war by just going out and shooting things? Like, does nobody get that attacks need useful intelligence, planning, logistics, transportation, and it can't be out in the open, you gotta either fight it guerilla, or you're just dead.

People are fucking morons.

People acting like the armed left isn’t preparing.

Citation needed.

Exactly the point of everyone who ever pointed out that your guns are completely useless if your government ever goes off the rails.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I won't believe the left is actually seriously preparing until I start seeing some Onion links around. We're probably on a list just for using Lemmy, which is notoriously leftist, and talking about this stuff publicly, unveiled, with a registered account is honestly below Hegseth level OPSEC

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

also, suppose we can plea

but just “pls consider 1A”

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I tried joining some leftist movements on tor, but they wouldn't let me in without a referral. i have no idea how to get a referral.

After what happened to Fred Hampton, I doubt the armed left are going to pop their heads up publicly unless they're ready to do something and know they're not going to get whacked immediately.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 4 days ago (11 children)

Well, the other side of it is that it doesn't matter how good your planning and logistics are if you only have rocks to throw when you get there

Nobody with a lick of sense ever said that a civil war against an established and well equipped government was going to be fought on battlefields, lined up and infantry vs civilian infantry.

And it takes more than guns, as the Iraqis and Afghanis showed. But calling guns useless in a revolution or civil war, much less as a resistance or insurgency is just stupid.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

I feel like it'd have to be a lot like Vietnam, with vets communicating 1 on 1 with soldiers, convincing them not to side with the government (trump has marginalized vets, after all). A military coup would be the best case scenario here. You convert his military, you remove his power.

Sorry, I forgot they were supposed to provide you personally with a detailed overview of their plans on a public forum lmao

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago (5 children)

I wasn't the one who used the "the armed left is preparing" argument in a public forum. I just consider it a stupid argument to use if there isn't any evidence that that is happening.

Afghanistan beat the US army with rifles and IEDs

[–] [email protected] 51 points 4 days ago (3 children)

just use signal, heard it’s pretty good

[–] [email protected] 24 points 4 days ago

It actually is, up to a point.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 4 days ago

“We’re good on OPSEC”

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

It actually is good, though. Russians are resorting to sync scams in Ukraine so they can get intel, if Signal was breached they wouldn't need to do it

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 days ago

Your lips to Gods ears

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 days ago (2 children)

In the Internet age? Good luck

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago

we've been in the "internet age" for almost 30 years now.

we're in the algorithm, AI, deepfake age now, the Methods and tactics used for an Information war in the 2000s was less effective in the 2010s, and all but obsolete in the 2020s

I find it hilarious that Clinton got impeached in 1998 for getting a blowjob (and votes were 50/50!) when compared to this shit show and nobody has even thought of doing anything to stop it.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Clinton got impeached for perjury he committed when he was testifying before Congress as defendant in a sexual harassment inquiry. If we hadn't let the DNC hand wave it away as "just a blowjob" back then maybe it would be easier to hold presidents accountable for breaking the law now.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

If that's what the history books will show, that USA crumbled because a horndog had her intern blow him, then I can't wait to read it.

The gun people were always more scared of brown people than theywere in love with the Constitution. All anyone needs to do to violate the Constitution with impunity is go along with hating brown people and the simple little 2A people think they're on the same team.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 4 days ago

Because the gun nuts are on the “same side” as the fascists.

They’re just too stupid to understand that the fascists will come to take their guns eventually. They never want anyone to be able to challenge their power.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago

At least 2 of them attempted to stop Trump, but they sucked at it.

took them a bit, but its back yeah. i think they removed the board that the attack was executed threw though

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

wait, which attack was orchestrated on 4chan?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

2 weeks ago a rival image board found an exploit in how one of the boards dealt with pdfs, and somehow used that to leak everything about the mods, the source code for 4chan, and because there were several other vulnerabilities in the code - which hasn't been worked on in years - they couldn't bring it back up because someone could just hack it again. somehow, dispite that its up and running again, no idea how

If the internet somehow went down completely... would people handpaint greentext on cave walls? Will we send paper airplane soyjaks from tribe to tribe? There's something here about pattern matching, pavlovian conditioning, the structure of communication... for some reason I want to associate it with the "presentation" of a meal?

The way you know a plate of fine dining would be small and savory, consumed carefully and thoughtfully... but if you see a basket with big red and white checkered paper, you think it's about to be a delicious heart attack that you know you'll eat way too fast?

Anyway, thanks for coming to my pointless TED ramble

spills the beans on a hot mic

hadn't heard that one

pretty sure Trump was against burning flags too, what's the new lore there

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

The post is mixed up. I'm sure it's referring to:

“THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT,” he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social at 9:37 a.m.

Less than four hours later, Trump announced a 90-day pause on nearly all his tariffs. Stocks soared on the news, closing up 9.5% by the end of trading.
