Looking forward to drinking a toast to Peter Dutton, former member for Dickson (fingers crossed).

Today is my birthday. A cool present would be to get the LNP out of here.

My short wishlist for today:

  • Devastating LNP loss
  • Dutton loses his seat
  • Amelia Hamer is never heard from again

Discussion about the federal election is allowed and encouraged.

Criticism about candidates, parties and pundits are all welcome.

Don’t be afraid to use the report function, a screenshot if you feel the need to.

Keep it civil and if you disagree with another user, you can either disagree with them courteously or simply down-vote and not reply.

I feel a good life is possible , with opportunities and fairness, for the young seagoons , and all aussies 😭

i would not have had that feeling if the libs got in

we need to better manage our natural resources and taxation and then we will be gold like scandinavia

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago (4 children)

This Canadia wishes you Aussies the best possible outcome! You can do it!

Even though I care not for the spud, after Trump and the shenanigans about stolen elections, I am proud that I live somewhere where elections are called and there is some basic civility around the gracious defeat speech then the victory speech. This might be the bottle of bubbly talking...

Thank god I voted early. I woke up feeling both barrels of the New Sickness one of the boys has. To top it off, he didn't want me in the bed with him after I gave him medicine after 1am so I went and slept on the couch.

Last thing I'd want to do whilst sick and after a terrible sleep is my civic duty.

Kids party next door. Adults talking politics and getting fairly heated. Kids playing pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey. Much noise. Pray for me.

My booth had more people on the cake and sausage stalls then out the front with fliers. That's something a lot of countries wouldn't understand and I think it's awesome. Democracy done. School supported and choc chip bickkies in mah tummy

The most important thing now is to see if Purple Pingerz makes the Senate

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I need a guy in the senate who's nickname is purple pingers

Antony has just called it.

Labor wins government, possibly with a large majority.

People here probably don't need the warning but the Trumpet of Patriot policies are sleazily disingenuous

He is almost sounding Left wing.

As if he wants to tax his own iron ore exports 15%. He refused to even pay his workers their entitlements.

Free education from Clive?

Cutting number of immigrants is unlikely since he wants to exploit them. All right wingers after like this: They are not interested in sensible intake numbers, only in stoking racism and division.

Even the net zero thing could be naively interpreted as: "we won't promise but we will try for net zero".

The superannuation thing could massively be thought to imply: "we will strengthen pensions instead".

He definitely won't raise minimum wages or NewStart to ensure families don't go hungry.

Anyone who doesn't know Palmer is a piece of shit is maliciously ignorant at this point.

Cracked 26min at my Parkrun this morning and felt really good too... 😳

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We'll miss Antony Green. What a legend.

I guess Casey Briggs got a test run during Covid when people were calling him "the Antony Green of death", and he'll be good, but it won't be the same.

I think I can talk about AEC work now that I've withdrawn. The offer I got was Sat night, 8pm start, minimum wage ($30.14), expected 3am finish (casual, maybe early dismissal) counting votes at an OPC (cold warehouse). I wouldn't take that shift for any job TBH. Maybe I'm being too picky but that's atrocious pay and hours for a one off ~7 hour job.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fuck all that. You'd think they could offer more considering what the job actually is.

Done! Now show me the senate 😺

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Majority government is good, they might actually get some shit done. The LNP will be very weak, like in Vic, which isn't actually great for democracy going forward, but maybe it'll convince them that they need to be less super right wing and they'll ultimately end up as a more moderate party. Maybe.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Victoria needs a new second party, would be nice to have a Vic only party instead of another federal organisation in Victoria.

Well it’s done. I didn’t have to wait as long as I thought for the result. I was thinking Labour would win, but thought it would be a narrower result. I can rest easy tonight, and hopefully wake up to news Dutton has lost his seat.

Fascinating watching the abc at the moment, the libs won’t own up to their mistakes and talk crap.

It’s honestly embarrassing.

Happy with the results, now time to put my local MP through the wringer so she actually addresses the real problems.

Dad's involved in the counting for Kooyong. Obviously he's limited to very simple communications, but he sounds like he's having a ball

Looking forward to seeing the results, having some nachos and wishing for a better future for all of us

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

The school down the road did not have a barbecue, or food of any kind. But I had a nice chat with one of the canvassers while in line.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Wow. Turning up to Victoria and trashing it was not a great strategy for the Libs. /s

Trying to convince the p's to 'let' me install a grab rail in their shower.

There is so much stigma to it it's ridiculous.
