James McAvoy for me. X-Men first Class, Split, Speak No Evil, even Victor Frankenstein. If MCavoy's name is attached to it, I'm probably going to see it. Charlize Theron is next. Mad Max: Fury road, Monster, and Kubo. Old guard... she acted her heart out, but it was okay in the end. (First post)

Charlize Theron - one of the best actors in the world IMO. If you disagree watch Monster.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago

Gary Oldman

Maybe Chris Pratt

John Cleese

Charlize Theron

Lately Millie Bobbie Brown it seems. Even her Holmes stuff is fun.

Kurt Russell

I don't watch many movies at all, too fidgety.

But if I see Tim Curry, I'm paying attention.

Shovelface. But after Twilight.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

Kek. Agreed.

Jared Harris

He's been in some real stinkers, but chances are if he shows up, you're in for a good time.

Daniel Day Lewis did for so long. Nobody does today really and I go to 2 movies a week and watch 5 at home. I am kind of keeping an eye on and encouraged by Bill Skarsgard, David Dastmalcian, Jack Quade, Michael B Jordan and Lewis Pullman...

Gooood list

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Catherine O'Harra, Tilda Swinton, Gary Oldman, John Malkovich, Tom Hanks

Actors who always commit to their roles! It's always a pleasure to see them, especially when you see them go from very serious to comedy in various parts. Tom Hanks was fantastic in the 80s when he was comedy but he seems to do more serious roles since then. Also why Saturday Night Live skits can be awesome when such actors are guest starting.

My mom's answer would be Walton Goggins, but I'd have to agree cause man that guy can change characters of a dime. From his crazy almost feral killer character from American Ultra, to his character from The Unicorn, to Vice Principals, to Fallout, the guy is damn near a chameleon.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

The Unicorn

Goggins as a trans woman in Sons of Anarchy stole the show even though this role had a total of like 3 minutes spread around in several episodes... the guy is awesome

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Vice Principals was so good, and it was incredibly disappointing that it got canceled. Righteous Gemstones does not scratch that itch for me, though Goggins as Uncle Baby Billy is just another character in what is a great showcase he's put together. I feel like he kinda went under the radar for a bit and he's getting his due now, and deservedly so.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Goggins is so hot right now and as a long time fan I’m absolutely here for it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah, Goggins' stole the show every damn time he was on screen in Justified. Great actor.

Michael Sheen. A fantastic proud Welshman who gave away his own money so the homeless World Cup could be held in Cardiff, and is now pouring his heart into the national theatre.

I’d love a drink or three with him.

Is that the bloke from Good Omens?

[–] orbitz 5 points 1 day ago

Pretty sure it is, cause I always think of Charlie and Martin when his name comes up, yes I know not related just sticks due to last name.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

There aren't too many actors that will pull my interest just based on their involvement. Sam Rockwell, Gary Oldman and Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP) are the first that come to mind but I'm sure there are more. Does Tom Waites count?

I loved him in Moon but haven't seen anything else he's been in. Got any recs?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 21 hours ago

Seven Psychopaths is hilarious, same director as In Bruges if you've seen that one.

Sam Rockwell is an awesome Zaphod Beeblebrox in The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

I would've never expected to say this 17 years ago (don't linger on that detail too long), but Robert Pattinson

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

My wife and I go on actor kicks, and RO was one not too long ago. Might have been spurred on by seeing The Lighthouse, but then it became let's just watch what he's done. I won't watch Twilight, not my jam, but my wife watches it with our daughter, who is now team whatever, I dunno. But Good Time was a great recent flick that switched me from RP to Safdie movies in general.

These days, it's Alan Tudyk for me. For movies and tv shows.

He has been in some of the most bizarre and ridiculous concepts, but he still always makes them a delight to watch, even as a supporting character.

I haven't been disappointed yet, even if it's bound to happen eventually.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

My wife and I got into Resident Alien because of him. Dollhouse was the first thing I saw him in, so yeah he likes bizarre and ridiculous would be correct. I love his comedy in Resident Alien.

Viola Davis, Elizabeth Olsen, Jodie Foster

I'll watch anything with Viola Davis. She tricked me into watching Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. It's a great movie and she played the role really well, but that was a rough movie to watch.

Oh man, I just watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and absolutely loved it. It was everything I wanted in a Nic Cage movie.

Ed Norton is an automatic sign that even if the movie sucks, it'll be worth watching once just for his performance.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Tilda Swinton
Olivia Colman

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

He won't be making any more movies... but Bruce Willis was always an easy draw for me. Most of his movies were easy watching, good times and I never really had to dedicate a lot of bandwidth to to have a good time.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

James mcavoy is a good call. I’d add Gary Oldman, Cate Blanchett, Judy dench, Adam Scott, Nathan Lane, Tim Roth, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleason, Sharon Horgan. Used to be Robert DeNiro, ed Norton, Tina Fey. Hopeful up and comers. Sydney Sweeney, Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Christin milioti

We share a lot of the same names. I had to pick and choose for the initial post, but you mentioned quite a few of my follow-ups.
