No, please don't mess it up. While he's off doing pomp and ceremony stuff, he doesn't have his fingers in policy. In fact, a full world tour of all British territory might be warranted.

I expect Starmer & Co. to make protest against the visit illegal if they can and as difficult as possible if they can’t. They won’t want to hear any dissent - although Starmer is so far up the Mango Mussolini’s arsehole he won’t hear it anyway.
I’d still go with the earlier proposal: a lunch with Prince Andrew in Pizza Express in woking.

This is just yet another brexit benefit. They can't turn their backs on the US market.
Unfortunately the pragmatic move given the orange toddler could crash our economy with just a single deranged tweet.
It is not worth it for Starmer to treat Trump like the piece of turd he is – crashing our economy and causing a rampant increase in poverty in the process – just so he can look based on twitter and Reddit for a few hours.
Wooing Trump while simultaneously becoming less reliant on the US and growing closer to the EU again is genuinely probably the only thing Kier is doing exceptionally well in right now, so I won't complain.

Require US permission to use. So we are far from reducing our reliance on them.
Do you have confirmation that they require US permission, or is it speculation? Because people have been saying similar things about things like Trident and F35s for years and they've been proven incorrect.
And that's just one thing. Broadly speaking we absolutely are reducing our reliance on them. Pointing out one area where we aren't isn't proof of a trend.
We've been ramping up UK production, BAE has been pushing to open more European factories, we've signed multiple defensive pacts, there's the European weapons programme, we're looking into adding more partners to our upcoming sixth-gen fighter jet programme, etc.

Just a news article. Can't even remember where I saw it. So yeah. You are likely correct.
That said. If the US refused to support the UK. I find it hard to believe we would not quickly have difficulties maintaing f35s. And given how much they really on software to fly. I'd be more surprised if the US did not have a backdoor.
I'd add that to anything the US sells that they would have reason to fear if turned against them.
I really think is the EU and or the UK want to be independent of the US. Arming with modern US weapons is about as safe as. Well issuing Chinese smart phones to all our politicians.
The US has never been entirely trust worthy when it comes to them Vs the world. Less so now.
There is no backdoor. We do not have the export variant of the F35 with US-controlled software. The software on our F35s (and Trident missiles) is British. This came as the result of concerns New Labour had about the very thing you mention - US backdoors.
And I agree that the US cannot be trusted. Thankfully our sixth gen fighters have no US ties, and most of our other recent military developments aren't either. For the time being, though, we can't really abruptly scrap trident or F35s, despite maintenance not being 100% done here (particularly for Trident). Our missiles only need maintenance every 10 years - I'd hope we have facilities to do that domestically by then.
