Now include property taxes and homeowners insurance. Most of Texas would shift bright fucking red.

So would NJ! Property taxes are insane here

Low income probably

Fun bit for the west tip of Maryland, that's a resort area so lots of people from NOVA, DC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, etc... have vacation homes there, greatly inflating the median home price.

It's the same with the red spot in north-western Michigan. A lot of cottages for rich people from the southern cities in michigan.

Missouri is weird

None of that is around St Louis or Kansas City

I wonder what role property taxes play in this. Illinois has some of the highest property taxes in the country

It's average home prices vs average wages. Things like property taxes and cost of living aren't included.

That's what I was mostly interested in, how property taxes affect home values

The areas of Missouri are just low income. I'm from Kansas and I noticed a couple of our yellow counties are college towns.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

That is interesting

My mindset while looking at the graph is ridiculously out of control housing prices, but the inverse would also be true of low incomes as well

Certainly makes me feel for those where both situations are true

Wow. Get why people say Chicago is affordable. Didn't even impact the surrounding counties like other cities.

On the border of 4-6 & 6-10, yeah. Spent around $150k on rent before moving back in to care for elderly parents.
