There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to [email protected].

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to [email protected], however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

I ask because we had a situation in Ireland just like this many years ago. It was for welfare fraud specifically and faced criticism for a few reasons. One was that the suspected levels of fraud may have been much lower than the politician was claiming. The other reason was that the cost of tackling it could likely outweigh any savings.

I am not talking about the MRT system. I see that everyday.

I am currently in Singapore and I swear I haven't seen daylight in two days. My hotel is directly connected to this MRT and Mall. I am just underground and everything is so huge down here.

I wonder is this a city under the city?

What kind of world are the Orange and his puppet master billionaires building?

Are we headed for slavery, extinction, the matrix or some other post apocalyptic future?

How do these despots think that food arrives?

At the moment it seems they're hell bent on global destruction.

I already made some people mad by suggesting that I would I would make by computer run an ollama model. I suggested that they make a counter AI bot to find these accounts that don't disclose they're bots. What's lemmy opinion of Ai coming into fediverse?

Pun intended, but still a serious question.

Would a neutron matter? (Pun also intended, but also serious)

I speak Spanish but primarily speak in English for the main reason that I haven’t seen an active LGBT group in anything but English. If not, I’ll make one!

(There appears to be 2 recent ones in Galician and Norwegian 🇳🇴, too, if you’re interested 😮)

I've been using Lemmy since last August and I find it very useful for sharing articles.

Most of the time articles are very easy to upload with no real defects. However, there are a few websites, such as apnewsDOTcom that send data that ends up as giving "Just a moment" for the headline, and no thumbnail image. [see https://lemmy.ml/post/26652484]

Where would I look in the apnews webpages to find the data elements that need fixing, and what software would I need to enter the fixed data into Lemmy, so that the Lemmy post looks right?

Thanks in advance for any help I get for this.

Have been thinking of reducing hair length as it's nearing summer in my place and the temperature is rising. I generally choose a shorter(relatively) hairstyle during the summer and monsoon, because it feels cooler in the former and easier to dry in the second one.

Was thinking about it and remembered reading on how the hair on the head helps to reduce effects of UV rays. I don't stay out in the sun too much, so likely not an issue for me.

Started thinking about what the range of best summer hairstyles would be for people of different hair type(straight, curly, wavy/inbetween both) etc. and asking about it here to see how/what other people on think about it.

Even better if you can provide your own understanding of its meaning.

Mine would be :

"Nothing kills a man as much as being forced to represent a country" (and err considering the context, I must stress it has nothing to do with the current US shitshow), by a WW1 soldier, illustrator and writer named Jacques Vaché.

For me it just means being forced into representing a group (national, of course, but maybe also social, racial, sexual, professional, any kind of group) or defining one's identity only by reference to a group is to be avoided at all costs.

Note : Its not the same, imho, as engaging in a collective struggle or defense against a common oppression.

How about you?

I want to shop local, but when I google locally owned stores they're all boutique-type stuff or restaurants. How do I find deodorant and a bag of sugar?

Think this is because I just updated fonts-noto-color-emoji?

Well, in any event, this is an outrage I shall not stand for! 😉

EDIT: Well, this is what happens when you aim for Vietnamization, I guess. 🤷

EDIT EDIT: Using the menu editor on Linux Mint Cinnamon, you can usually edit the comments for an app by clicking on its preferences, and ironically I was doing that to mark the apps that are US-based with the flag as a reminder to find alternatives to them!

To those who live in or who have visited the United States.

Growing up in the 90's, the "minimum acceptable" tip was 10%, average was 15%, and a good tip was 20%. These days, I just round to the nearest dollar and tip 20%, but I've heard these days it's not unusual to tip up to 40%!

What do you usually do?

I just realized my library card gives me access to an app I can borrow magazines from. And as someone trying to do less Lemmy scrolling at night and more long form reading, I’m wondering where to start.

I generally like politics, philosophy, interesting facts, history, social issues.

Also, I’m not American if that matters.

What’s your favorite magazines!
