You know what we need is an alien invasion. Advanced tech and weapons, but not TOO advanced, so that the world can unite around planetary defense, and defeat them with our clever monkey brains that are much better at combat that they ever anticipated. I see no potential downsides whatsoever to this plan.
I'll get on collecting half full glasses of water around my house. Maybe brush up on my Morse code.
This is a sound plan. Something about tin foil hats as well.
