Not anymore. Now it's a self-perpetuating capitalist oligarchy, with a fair helping of totalitarianism. Any hint of communism has been stamped out, although they can fairly claim some (very selective) socialism.

It's a shame, too. It's quite shocking, if you spend some time there, to see how un-communist the country really is. Maybe things are a bit better in the countryside, but the cities (even smaller ones) are far less for the average person than an equivalent city in, say, the Nordics. I've only been to Sweden once but it seemed to me far closer to what that idealized society might look like.

While I'm inclined to agree, aren't a bunch of the Nordic countries also propped up by a ton of oil money? Norway's sovereign wealth fund, for example, is worth over a trillion US dollars.

Kinda makes it easier to have a good quality of life when you're filthy stinking rich.

Ofc, you can compare that to other countries with vast oil wealth, like the UAE, and there are some pretty stark differences, so tons of money certainly isn't the only cause.

norway is the only oil-producing nordic country. sweden exports mainly steel, wood, and high-tech products like HV transformers and Minecraft.

That minecraft money propping up a country

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

If they add RMT, my cobble stockpiles will be worth a fortune!

[–] cygnus 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Norway is the only one where that applies, and I specifically mentioned Sweden.

Edit: with that said, Norway's example only proves my point — they nationalized a natural resource and have been using the funds for the public good. Norway's sovereign wealth fund is 50% bigger than China's despite Norway having 1/280th (!!!) of China's population.

But ml assures me CCP is communist.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

There was a meme on there the other day with a Mao quote about how brainwashing is good, actually.

It's impossible to parody.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Damn where's that one? Sounds like a candidate for [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

It was on /communism

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (4 children)

How can they claim Marxism when they have an investor class and stock markets?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well Karl Marx theorized that communism would arise after a long period of social evolution. Therefore they are just socially evolving and not capitalist and somehow not hypocrites.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Don't forget, the development of a capitalist mode of production is only communist if you suppress all semblance of democracy first. Otherwise, it's "Social fascism"

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Do they claim marxism? Because communism can take other forms like State and Leninist. Nobody does marxist communism, there’a always some cult of personality, dictatorship, or tyrant at the helm and the people get lip service and the worst aspects of social policy designed to extract wealth and power. Instead of multiple corporation trying to control you and having to play nice to keep you vs the other guys, the State becomes the rotten corporation beholden to nobody and only has to offer enough service to keep everyone from revolting while holding them essentially hostage.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

"Oh no, not Marxism. We are Keynesian communists."

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Because if you dare contradict them there are consequences.

[–] [email protected] 65 points 1 month ago (3 children)

But Chemical X is just another ingredient, not the result of the first 3 ingredients.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Spiderman sees better without his glasses.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

That one makes me disappointed every time, because its never used properly

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Isn't the fourth panel supposed to be the fourth ingredient?
(Chemical X, the ingredient, not toddler superheros, the result)

So they added CCP to the socialism with Chinese characteristics, and to the communism, and to the capitalism.

What was the result?

Edit: Oh, zkfcfbzr already stated the same :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I guess you could argue the CCP is somehow separate from the other ingredients and the end result is Modern China but I'd have just gone with "nationalism" for Ingredient X.

Asshole mod deleted my post, glad to see someone reposted it at least. I swear Lemmy is trying to learn nothing from Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or the mods aren’t looking to fight with tankies?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Censorship due to cowardice is still censorship

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why are you concluding cowardice? Maybe they just don't feel like doing that?

Why do you think the mod is obligated to do this as a result of your choices?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yes how dare I expect people who sign up to moderate to .... moderate

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago

That is moderating. They axed content they did not want on their space which you have no right to beyond what they permit. If you don't like that ypu can make ypur own community.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

While i agree this is a horrible meme. You used the format completely incorrectly

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Nooo, you can't call out the """"""""axis of resistance"""""""!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Communism everywhere!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

The forth panel should be Han ethnonationalism
