A forum... moves to a chat app? A proprietary one too? They're practically begging to be censored just like on reddit.

More importantly, Discord sucks.

Going from one closed and centralized anti free speech service owned by a malicious corporation to another closed and centralized anti free-speech service owned by a malicious corporation.

The amount of copium needed for doing that must be insane! Or they don’t really want free speech and independence at all.

Feel free to jump in and let them know

No. VPN users are banned on reddit, and discord would require to create an account on this shitty platform. Maybe they'll understand in a few years though.

I was mostly talking about Reddit, where I guess most of the people here still have an account.

Trump will continue trying to prosecute trans individuals and trans supporters with the force of law. Discord is not going to stick their neck out for you. They do not care about you. They're selling all of your information to AI companies to target you.

I can't even see anything on Reddit anymore, much less post anything there.

Have you jumped in to let them know? Because I can't, and that makes three so far in this thread; meanwhile, it seems like you could have just gone ahead and done it already.

I'm already monitoring this kind of threads, organizing discussion here and on [email protected], monitor /r/RedditAlternatives and keep communities like [email protected].

There's only so much someone can do.

That's good work, and it's more than anyone could ask of you, thank you for doing it! I hope it's clear I was just turning your responses around; "feel free to jump in and let them know", "sad to hear" don't read well. I'm not in any way trying to say that you haven't been doing enough.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I rephrased "sad to hear" to "that's unfortunate"

What about "feel free to jump in and let them know", how would you change it so that it still calls to action?

I think

More voices make a difference, lend us yours!

Or

Help spread the word, if you can!

Might read better, and they're still short enough to post quickly.

When I'm home, I'll look into creating an account or two securely and joining in. I'm already telling everyone I know about Lemmy in meatspace, it's remarkable how even my technically-adept friends are still largely on Reddit.

Oh yes, and "sad to hear/that's unfortunate" could use an endcap like "but no worries!" to soften them. Without the endcap and no further punctuation, they read negatively - maybe sarcastic, maybe passive-aggressive and uncaring, or something along those lines - I'm not really sure how to describe it at the moment beyond "negative". Personally, I like to throw in a quick example of how I understand their position, but I think that's optional.

Thanks, those are good suggestions!

Well, that's both good and bad.

Bad, because discord is just a stone's throw away from doing the same kind of fuckery.

But good because the subject is important, the community is important, and it needs to be active.

But, bad, because places like the armed gay agenda, [email protected] exist here on lemmy, and there's a strong presence of trans people that are willing to be armed and ready here.

Fwiw, anyone running across this that's thinking about getting armed, but don't have the knowledge base to move in that direction, don't hesitate to holla at me. I'm no expert (though I am a damn good shot), but I'll do what I can.

Also, there's multiple gun communities on lemmy. Iirc, [email protected] and [email protected] are the two most active, but [email protected] is there if those instances aren't to your liking

Yeah I'm mean feel free to ask me too, while we're offering.
