Canada will send $5 billion in aid to Ukraine using funds from seized Russian assets, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday at a peace and security summit in Kyiv.

Trudeau made the pledge as he and a dozen other world leaders are in the Ukrainian capital to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, where support for Ukraine to end the war on its terms and with its territory intact remained strong.

β€œThis is not a conflict Ukraine wanted, provoked or asked for in any way,” Trudeau said at the summit table.

β€œThis is a war started for one reason and one reason only: Russia’s desire to erase Ukrainian history and expand their empire.”

[...]

β€œWe cannot return to an era where might makes right,” Trudeau said. β€œWe must do everything in our power to enable Ukraine to secure a just and lasting peace, a peace that cannot be achieved without Ukrainians at the table.”

Trudeau has been knocking it out of the park ever since he announced his resignation

[–] Punchshark 63 points 4 days ago (4 children)

The Fuck Trudeau crowd is in shambles

[–] BedSharkPal 28 points 4 days ago

Didn't you know that everyone who's bad is now Trudeau? Carney? Nah that's Trudeau in a mask! Freeland? Trudeau in a mask AND a dress.

[–] Devanismyname 23 points 4 days ago

Nah, they're opinions were never based on fact. It was always them falling for the propaganda.

[–] TheFeatureCreature 15 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I send them my regards.

Now that Trudeau is out of the picture - who are they going to fuck now?

[–] SplashJackson 5 points 4 days ago

Us! At the voting station, when they vote for Ford

[–] Albbi 10 points 4 days ago

I vote for themselves.

[–] epicstove 3 points 4 days ago

Themselves maybe?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

....from whence they originated.

It's crazy, once he stopped playing politics he became a pretty decent politician!

[–] BCsven 34 points 4 days ago (2 children)

No longer has to worry about re-election, so he can now make the proper call on issues

[–] n2burns 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

True, but polls show he also became more popular once he stopped making blatantly political moves (Carbon Tax exception for Heating Oil, etc) and started making "the proper call on issues". It might just be a rally-around-the-flag effect with US tariffs & 51st state stuff, but I think it's quite the coincidence!

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago

It’s not the polls he’d worry about, it’s the billionaires funding his opponents. Now that he’s retiring, he doesn’t have to deal with campaign fundraising

[–] imvii 4 points 3 days ago

He's really good in these situations. He also knocked it out of the park during Covid.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yes now that he plans to quit he finally wants to make his father proud. He wasnt so bad at the start, but then he just regressed into nothing then into eh then into just shut up.

Its such a shame he got overwhelmed with high expectations so quickly and just turned into yeah hes th PM, yeah hes okay but whatever. He couldve been and done much more.

Ukrainian troops firing at Russians with weapons purchased with money from seized Russian assets.

That's poetry right there.

As an addition: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the UK also announced new sanctions against Russia at the start of this week.

[–] ramjambamalam 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How much more can we realistically sanction?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Until Ukraine takes over Russia and makes it a democracy.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think the poster you replied for meant what is there practically left to sanction?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

At this point, enforcement should be use more since sanctions are getting violated, we know this but western regimes don't want to "pester" "job creators"

A lot of mouth breathing Canadians are going to be mad at Trudeau again!

[–] Showroom7561 24 points 4 days ago

Bravo! This is why Canada is loved by other nations.

It's also a HUGE "fuck you" to Trump and Putin.

Slava Ukraini!

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 days ago

Ty Canada.

Trumpty Dumpty is trying to serve them up on a silver platter.

[–] SplashJackson 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How many frozen asset funds are remaining?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

A lot, nobody has wanted to touch them out of fear that it would erode trust in financial institutions of the countries in question. EU has used its interest as collateral for loans to support Ukraine.

I hope every penny gets used to throw the murderers out of Ukraine.
