I swear it wasn't like this when I was in elementary school 30 years ago. Where the fuck are the school busses?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

School bus is what the poors ride... Suburban trash is too elite for the bus, they prefer to waste time in traffic as a proper elite would!

You can see them in the video, stuck in the car traffic.

This seems wildly inefficient.

Unfortunately, the copied description of the video cuts out before we are informed: "This was a test by the NCDOT to try and alleviate traffic backing up from the school into the highway. ... This plan did not work and was reverted back to the plan that had been in place for years." Actually, though it is bitter to admit, the YouTube commenters have this pretty well covered already.

This is so stupid, why not just have have more smaller sized schools spread out in a community, as opposed to one larger schools for the whole community.

Smaller school spread out inside a mixed use walkable suburb would allow children to walk and be independent, and it would also achieve a higher density in land usage.

Larger school located outside of a American style single family home (non walkable) suburb, requires kids to be driven, as walking takes to long and the distances are too great.

Is there any particular reason why that whole area is not a parking lot, so that people can park, walk their kids and then walk back to their cars and leave? Do they absolutely have to drive them up to the door?

This is exactly what my kid's school is like every single morning and afternoon. 20 minutes of sitting bumper to bumper with lifted trucks and massive SUVs. I did that once before I knew what a mess it was. Now I just park a couple blocks away and walk for a few minutes. Or when it gets warm ride the bike with a kid trailer.

It's just sickening to watch so many people waste so much of their life and money just so they don't have to get out of their car and walk with their child for a few hundred feet.
