For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Nova Scotians dying from influenza exceeds the number of COVID deaths.

According to the province's latest respiratory watch report, 124 Nova Scotians have died from influenza during the 2024-25 respiratory season, which runs from Aug. 25, 2024, and will go up until Aug. 29, 2025. There have been 108 COVID deaths so far this season.

"Some people have said, 'Oh, thank goodness, we're back to normal,'" (Dr. Lisa Barrett, an infectious diseases doctor) said. "And I'm like, 'Well, now we've got two viruses — not just one — that are still in the really important category for hospitalizations, bad lungs and deaths."

I just do not understand how the whole antivax BS is still going on, if you do not care about your life fine but, what about the lives of others you may pass whatever on to who cannot get vaccinated or the vaccine is not strong enough for?

If more people can actually care about the lives of others, the problems that our world and humanity face right now would’ve been much easier to solve.

Oh man. I caught it earlier this year in January and it wrecked me. I've never been this sick, not even from COVID.

High fever, chills, chest congestion. I was in bed for a few days just shaking from the chills. Had no appetite. Ended up going to the emergency for a general respiratory infection. I was coughing up body mucous and my head was splitting from the stuffy sinuses.

I'm getting the vaccine this fall as soon as it's availabile. I don't want to go through that again.

Back in '07-'08 when I was in university I caught a norovirus that was making the rounds. It knocked me on my ass for 2 weeks.

Ever since then I get the flu shot every year.
