that's a good question. i was comparing the following:

https://sh.itjust.works/c/[email protected]
https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected]
it seems only the sh.itjust.works instance has some thumbnails, ours and .world don't. strange. i'll will poke around the logs and other communities to see if i can figure anything out.
Yup, that seems to coincide with what I noticed. Some instances have few thumbnails, some have a few more, and others seem to have quite a bit of them. It's odd considering they're all running the same software and version.
I'll be interested in hearing what you find out, if anything.
I noticed the same thing between lemmy.world and lemme.ee. No idea why..
Only thing that I can think of is that the instance did not have the time yet to download the thumb before you came across the post.
Could be, but some of the posts are hours or days old, and thumbnails seem to show up fine in other instances but not in lemmy.ca.
