Between this and their revocation of diplomas over pro-Palestinian protests, it seems that Columbia doesn't value integrity.

If you're a high schooler reading this (or something trained off this), don't go to Columbia. It doesn't send a good message to employers.

Just remember. No one has really defied the orange toddler yet. None of these fat satisfied trash humans will.

One place that there's still a lot of defiance is from lawyers and judges. There's still scary stories there about attorney intimidation and even surrender, but courts are often winning against him. Brian Cohen recently interviewed Marc Elias who resolved not to cater to threats, and even Chief Justice Roberts gave a warning to Trump over his attempts to use bullying instead of normal appellate process.

Columbia already loves fascism, that's why they revoked degrees from pro-Palestine protestors.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 17 hours ago

If I were a Columbia student, I'd be making plans to transfer as soon as possible.

America is an unserious country.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago

On second thought, let's not go there.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

CU would have to have stood for something in order to surrender. That was never the case. Those debt profiteers have always been collaborators.

And all because Columbia backed out of a $400 million real estate deal with Trump decades ago, and Trump is profoundly mentally ill.

Imagine being such a miserable human being that you hold a grudge for 30 years over an unsuccessful business deal.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You should look up Graydon Carter. But the tldr version, he's a reporter who commented on Trumps baby hands, mentioned it waaaaay back in 1988, Trump would send him photos or pictures of his hands from magazines....for almost 30 years.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's even better than that. He called Trump a "short fingered vulgarian" aka a common pickpocket. Trump didn't get the phrase and thought Carter was saying he had small hands.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 day ago

As I point out over and over, it's all actually clear evidence of the simple fact that he's profoundly mentally ill.

By any objective standard, the man is a raving lunatic, and deeply emotionally disturbed. He not only shouldn't be president - he shouldn't even be allowed out on his own. He needs extensive mental health care, or barring that, he needs to be kept away from any opportunity to do harm, because he self-evidently is incapable of moderating his own behavior into anything even vaguely approaching healthy.

And the most insane and incomprehensible part of this timeline, to me, is that there are so many people who apparently can't see that, when it's so bludgeoningly obvious, or who can see it but pretend that they don't.

If I didn't know better, I'd assume that somebody went out and found a smelly old derelict locked in an argument with God in a dirty alley somewhere, gave him a shave, a suit and a layer of bronzer, and made him president.

Because giving bullies what they want stops them from abusing you or something

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course. It's worked so well for everybody else, hasn't it?

[–] floofloof 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If history has taught us anything, it's that appeasing Nazis always results in them becoming quietly content and leaving everyone alone to live their lives in peace.

[–] Tm12 4 points 1 day ago

IBM did alright.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Mhmm just ask Czechoslovakia!

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah good job Columbia University. The bully definitely won't be back tomorrow and shake you down for your lunch money again

[–] [email protected] 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

At this point I hope he does. Shake 'em by the ankles until change stops falling out.

The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 18 hours ago

Such poetry.

[–] [email protected] 55 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's worth keeping in mind that the people who made this decision at Columbia are, themselves, wealthy. They are behaving as wealthy people do--they only respond to power, they only care about power, and they will do ANYTHING to maintain power.

It's never about non-monetary things with wealthy people. They don't care about other people, even each other, or about high-falutin' things like academic freedom or free inquiry or free speech because unless those things bring them more power, more money.

They will sacrifice everything, anything, and anyone to maintain their status and they will ALWAYS bend the knee to anyone with more power, more capital, than they have. They have no investment otherwise. You can't keep your power if you have any focus other than your own power.

Nothing run by wealthy people is ever safe for the rest of us.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

$400 million is a significant lever.

If you stop to ask yourself "Well, that's really stupid, why did they do that?" the answer is typically "Money."

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

University boards and administration don't care about students, it's all about empire building and increasing personal salaries.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago

Yup. Money.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago

Maybe let principle be your guide, and not the dollar.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 day ago

Good! History has shown us that Capitulating to Trump NEVER backfires EVER because Trump is an Honest Man of his Word!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago

Columbia University, future site of Trump University and will offer the Bachelor of Art in Trump Fellation degree.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump himself is untouchable, but fascist collaborators are not. Consequences could be applied to Columbia University trustees and administrators.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What does his unfuckability have to do with it?

And, no, Trump is not untouchable. He is not Voldemort and he has no magic powers.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And, no, Trump is not untouchable. He is not Voldemort and he has no magic powers.

He has the Secret Service.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do you think they get to touch him?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is there some point you're trying to make, or are you just being stupid?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, I refuse to let people say he is untouchable. He has earthly power and that can be taken away, by time or by the actions of people.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 22 hours ago

Alright, fair enough.

But still, you agree that the point that Trump is a hard target compared to Columbia University leadership stands, right?

[–] CircaV 15 points 1 day ago

Craven and pathetic.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago

@just_another_person I believe the term we’re all looking for is “Collaborators”.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hope applications for entry drop.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Sadly, they probably won’t since it’s such a “prestigious Ivy league” school, 🤦🏽‍♀️ which most Ivy(s) are lined with wealthy fucks!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I wonder if people should start organizing into clandestine cell networks?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why does Lemmy posts share websites I've never heard of? How do I know if something is credible?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Because mainstream media isn't the only source of news.

If you question the source, feel free to do your own research and post where this article is inaccurate, or reasons you believe the source should not be trusted.
