Ayeeee let's go!

I joined only a few days ago and even I can notice the change in volume.

Feels like the content is starting to roll in now. Exciting times!

Really happy there's more and more folks flocking to Fediverse websites. AI and Fediverse might be the same impetus forward as social media was in the late 00's.

I find we're at a point where I can waste a good amount of time scrolling comments. I can't just brainlessly scroll hot like I could reddit and get a constant supply of fresh content, but between Top Day and New Comments I can really destroy my productivity here, now.

Agreed! I don't need an endless supply of content, just enough for coffee and bathroom breaks. There's plenty to catch up on in that time. Plus, there are still relevant news stories and happenings, so the fomo is kept at bay.

The fear is real, you want to know what's happening in the world this instant

Edit: typo

And some user on squabbles was saying that the fediverse wasn’t going to perform well because it’s too complicated. Okay, buddy.

I remember when I resisted joining Reddit because it was too complicated to figure out. Just bein' a stubborn butt though, I caved eventually!

They may end up being right, but man I'm not a fan of squabbles user experience either. It's just an awkward layout personally

Imagine celebrating 3M lemmitors! Feditors? Federanians?

Haha. This reminds me of something. Back in... I wanna say 1998 -- I was a contributor to KDE (open source software project). We collaborated over email officially, and IRC unofficially -- on openprojects.net. when we released version 2.0, the operator of the openprojects.net server (the equivalent of @[email protected] (lilo) sent a site wide message across the network inviting everyone to #kde for a release party. Our small channel went from 30 to 50 to 100 users abruptly, and we had a fun time. Years later, the channel would idle well above 400 users and no one would say anything for hours.

Right now Lemmy feels like that one day in 1998 and I can't stop smiling about it somehow. :)

Is there a chart or something? What's the actual growing rate?

[–] thayer 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

There's a few out there. Here's one: https://fedidb.org/network/instance/lemmy.ca

Edit: And here's the Lemmy+Kbin platform combined: https://fedidb.org/current-events/threadiverse

334,726 users and climbing!

[–] mars 2 points 2 years ago

Wow, that's some nice data visualization going on there. Thanks for linking!
