Rules and Guidelines

1. No BigotryIncluding racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

2. Be CivilArgue in good faith, attack the argument; not the person, and promote a healthy debate. That includes implying violence, threats or wishes of violence and/or death.

3. No PornThis instance is not made to host porn communities. You're free to access porn communities on other instances through your account, but be mindful of Rule 4.

4. Use the NSFW tagUse your common sense: if you wouldn't want this image to show up on your work computer, tag it as such. In comments, use the
spoiler ::: tag for NSFW images, and put a NSFW mention beside links. Do not use NSFW images as your avatar or banner. :::
5. No Ads / SpamThis instance is not there to act as your billboard. If you want to promote your personal work, at least make the effort to be a contributing member of this community. Your account purpose shouldn't be to only advertise, make it natural.

6. Bot accountIf you are the operator of a "bot" account, make sure to flag is as such in the account's settings.

7. Right to privacyDo NOT distribute the personal information of someone else without their consent (aka doxxing). Information that is public domain can be shared, provided it is in good faith.
ex: The official email of an elected official is fair, the private phone number or the real name of a non-public person is NOT.

8. Report abuseThe report function isn't labelled the disagree button. You might not agree with someone, but that doesn't mean what the person says is against the rules. Using it repeately in this fashion will lead to actions being taken against the reporter.

9. ImpersonationDon't make an account with the intent to negatively deceive or defame someone on the fediverse.
ex: Parody of a famous person is okay, submitting outrageous content as appearing like another user, mod or admin isn't.

(kna)

Barbara F. Walter is not just any commentator, she’s a leading expert on civil war and democracy:

Why she’s ringing the alarm bells:

##The signs are undeniable:

  • Political violence is rising
  • Extremism is mainstreaming
  • Trust in elections and institutions is eroding
  • Powerful voices are fueling conspiracy theories and hate
  • Walter’s research shows democracies most at risk are “anocracies”—nations caught between democracy and autocracy.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anocracy
  • The U.S. slid from a stable democracy toward partial democracy/anocracy during 2020–21.
    TED Talk summary & analysis
  • Civil conflict risks spike when political parties form around identity (race, religion) instead of ideology.
    Analysis from TED & PBS
  • She's warned that overt actions—like Trump’s assault on norms or calls for war—strengthen factional divides and escalate to violence.

What a 21st-century U.S. civil war looks like (not 1860s-style):

  • Decentralized violence—bombings, assassinations, militia clashes
  • Social media fueling hate and conspiracy
  • Legal breakdowns—competing governing authorities, refusal to cooperate

This isn’t fear-mongering. It’s a warning.

Walter reminds us: civil war doesn’t arrive with tanks and uniforms.
It slips in through eroding norms, growing grievances, social polarization, and unchecked factional identity politics.

##If you think “it can’t happen here,” Barbara F. Walter says: that’s exactly what every crumbling democracy thought—until it was too late.

“Democracy doesn’t die in darkness. It dies in silence.”

Speak up. Organize. Vote. Resist authoritarianism — before it's too late.

In her closing speech, #FrancescaAlbanese, #UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied #Palestinian territory, said: "These aren't just measures but are lifelines for a people who are under relentless assault and a world that has been paralysed for too long."

"These 12 states have taken a momentous step forward," #Albanese added. "The clock is now ticking for states, from Europe to the Arab world and beyond, to join them."

The CPB and the fired board members sued Trump and several administration officials and offices on April 29, saying that the president has no power to fire board members. The CPB is not a federal agency but instead a private corporation whose "board members cannot be affected, controlled, or disturbed by the actions of the government," the lawsuit said.

On June 8, Moss denied the CPB's motion for a preliminary injunction that would have blocked the firings. Moss said he found it "difficult to fathom that Congress intended to provide the members of the Corporation's Board with essentially irrevocable tenure."

The Trump administration's lawsuit pointed to Moss's order, saying the board members "are defiantly acting as if the Court granted the relief the Court denied."

"Despite the Court's denial of their request for preliminary relief, Defendants have continued to usurp the office of board member of the CPB, including by participating in board meetings, voting on resolutions and other business that comes before the board, and presenting themselves to the public as board members. All of this is manifestly unlawful," the lawsuit said.
