This is starting to feel like a regular thing, but we're now on 0.18.2.

Release notes are here - https://join-lemmy.org/news/2023-07-11_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.18.2

Do people value me posting this each time we upgrade? Should I continue? Edit: answer is yes!

I noticed this Wealthsimple Community pop up in my "active" list today.

Clicked in and noticed its empty, but the sidebar contains a sneaky affiliate link for the moderator of that community.

Same thing with the Wealthsimple Trade Community.

I think this sort of activity should be banned from here tbh, definitely at the mod level.

When using my other lemmy.ca account when I filter by my subscriptions nothing comes up. This is consistent across both memmy and mlem apps. Anyone else? This account (lemmy.ml) works fine.

Lemmy Themes (self.main)

I've enjoyed the fact that there is theming in Lemmy, but I just wanted to make an appreciation post for the Dark Vaporwave theme and a big thanks to our Admins for adding it to this instance.

Was just interested in joining Matrix and since my lemmy account was on a Canadian server was wondering if my Matrix account could be too.

Example: https://lemmy.ca/c/[email protected]

I saw some posts show up in All/Hot and I can't view the Community when I access it through lemmy.ca but I can view it directly.

Is it a federation issue?

My lemmy apps can no longer connect to the API (Memmy, mlem, thunder, wefwef etc) unless I manually navigate to a community, however won’t accept requests to make posts or comments. Anyone else having this issue?

Edit: reinstalling apps to force a re-auth fixes it

Heads up that we've bumped the UI up to 0.18.2-rc.1, which should resolve the current exploit that was seen on lemmy.world.

We've also logged out all currently logged in users as part of it, so you'll need to login again.

The site is down for now but do not try to login into it.

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/923025

lemmy.world is a victim of an XSS attack right now and the hacker simply injected a JavaScript redirection into the sidebar.

It appears the Lemmy backend does not escape HTML in the main sidebar. Not sure if this is also true for community sidebars.

I’m loving Lemmy. And I’m loving this instance. Great conversation, no bots, no ads. It seems like there are so many intentional, thoughtful comments here (and Lemmy as a whole) than Reddit.

The way I used reddit was to unsub from all of the defaults and only subscribe to smaller communities I was interested in. That with Apollo, was a decent experience, was enough to remove the thought of ‘internet commodification’ while browsing.

But shit, this is awesome. Thank you for making this space a pleasure to use and scroll through. Feels like the old days a bit, we’re all just figuring out this new(ish) space.

A new version of my Rediggit theme for Lemmy has dropped, and with it comes a name change...

Rediggit is now Lemonberry, to better reflect the separation from Reddit.

I've also added a much-requested dark mode, adapted from Lemmy's default darkly theme. Those familiar with the Reddit Enhancement Suite's dark mode should find this pretty comfortable.

The latest version of Lemonberry is optimized for Lemmy v0.18.1 only and is available on GitHub and UserStyles. I will likely keep the optimizations in sync with only the larger instances as Lemmy development is changing rapidly, and it's proving difficult to maintain compatibility with older versions.

You can also find older versions of the theme, and additional screenshots, at the GitHub repo.

If you have no idea what any of this means, Lemonberry is a flexible, full-width light and dark theme for Lemmy. It is just one of many user-made themes for this community. These themes can be installed and enabled with the use of a CSS injector browser add-on, such as Stylus (Firefox, Chrome). UserStyles.world is a good place to start exploring the available themes.

Cheers

Hello everyone!

Just a quick heads up that we've applied the upgrade to 0.18.1 which resolves a lot of performance and federation issues.

Let us know if you run into any new problems!

Are we upgrading to v0.18.1 soon? The only reason I ask is that it fixes a serious security bug.

Hello. I recently joined Lemmy, and quite like it. I have been on Mastodon for a while. So, I was interested in following some of the communities and posts here on Lemmy within my Mastodon account. I did manage to successfully follow two communities from this instance, those being NDP and Ontario. However, other communities, such as Toronto, Biking, Canada, and some others, the search turned up empty (I had a screenshot to better illustrate this, but I was given a syntax error when I tried to upload it). So, I was unable to follow them on Mastodon.

Of the communities that I did manage to follow, I have been able to interact with them using my Mastodon account. However, some actions have not been as I expected them to be. I would put a hashtag in the title of a post here on Lemmy, expecting this to show up in a hashtag search on Mastodon (since, you know, we're all federated), but this didn't work. The post, when I search for it, appears on Mastodon, but it does not appear in a search of the included hashtag (which I find odd). But I digress.

My main question is why can I find and follow some Lemmy communities on Mastodon but some I simply cannot?

Anyone else having issues with Kbin.social?

Any post I made from Kbin.social appear there, but not on Lemmy.ca

It seemed to be all working for a while!

147

I've seen that some instances have already done it preemptively.

Several communities I have tried to join from this account appear to sit at SUBSCRIBE PENDING forever, but when subscribing to the same group from my Friendica account seem to sit in WAITING FOR APPROVAL for ~1 minute.

In both cases I appear to be able to interact with the community without any difficulty.

Edit: This rule seems to be much more nuanced and requires more thought than we had put in, please continue to discuss below.

It is NOT in effect at this time but highly recommend for regional subreddits at least.

~~The above rule has been added to the instance and will be enforced instance wide.~~ This rule is very common within most existing communities where news articles are shared and avoids sensationalizing the story or attempts at steering discussion by the user posting the article.
