I got a few posts from them in the communities I moderate, it might be good to keep an eye out for them till they go away / are banned. There are a handful of accounts either posting the links or pretending to be happy buyers.

I don't think anyone will fall for it, but some links are sticking around because the community mods haven't noticed (or they did, but I didn't notice because I got to those posts through the links).

Someone with a racist username DM'd me very graphic porn and insults. Obvious troll is obvious yet I can't find a report button on DMs or the user's profile. Please help.

How do we report communities or users that are problematic on Lemmy.ca?

I attempted to create a post that highlighted a URL. I saw the option to add an image, so I did. But, the post ended up linking to the image rather than the URL. Yet, the URL designation comes before the image designation (note included image), so my assumption was that a URL would be given priority over an image. However, that was not the case.

I don't know if this could be changed. Often in Reddit, an image is automatically captured from a URL link post. But that is not the case here. So, I assumed that I could manually add an image, while the post still linked to the specified URL. But, that seems to not be the case. I'm hoping this can be the case in the future.

Sorry (🍁) we did this without making a post, but after receiving several complaints we defederated from hexbear.net yesterday.

Do not follow the Chapo Rules of Posting, instead try to engage utilizing informed rhetoric with sources to dismantle western propaganda. Posting the western atrocity propaganda and pig poop balls is hilarious but will pretty quickly get you banned and if enough of us do it defederated. Realize that you are a representative of the hexbear instance when you post on other instances.

Hi everyone!

On the surface, this update brings a handful of features integrating the extension with other tools and services. We have the first of many features from the LemmyTools userscript, as well as the support for Alexandrite and Photon frontends. You can also directly search for communities through Lemmyverse.net and for posts through search-lemmy.com, among other small changes.

The biggest change was behind the scenes. I've completely refactored the code throughout the extension. Now that we have a clearer plan for the extension, I simplified all around, such as consolidating most functions to a central utils.js file. I also reworked the settings, and unfortunately this means you may have to add your home instance again. Moving forwards, it should be a lot easier to maintain the extension and for people to collaborate, which brings me to:

It's been on the back-burner for a bit but it's time that I get on it and register our operation as a on-profit organization. We will be registering under the BC Societies Act. Completing this registration will allow for opening up a bank account under the organization's name and reopen donations and have the previously donated funds transferred from @[email protected] to the organization.

To this date since taking over operations of Lemmy.ca I have personally covered the costs and have not been reimbursed to keep accounting as clean as possible. This will continue until registration has been completed.

First step to this is picking a name to register the Society under. Requirements for the name can be found here.

While the initial main purpose of the society/organization will be operating Lemmy.ca we would prefer a name that would be fit for operations of other open communication platforms as well as other potential projects that we may want to participate in in the future. Something somewhat open ended.

Please give us some suggestions and we will take the suggestions under advisement when picking a name.

It appears this release fixes the comment linking/ordering problems we've been seeing over the last week or two.

Hello I am writing this post to inform you that rammy.site has been taken over by far right-wing posters from exploding-heads. They have been posting extremely toxic transphobic content and climate denial and have also started posting onto other instances. They're using Rammy.site to spread their content from exploding-heads because it has been defederated by the bigger instances and are taking advantage of the fact that the admin isn't doing his duties to use it as a bridge to spread their hateful and abusive content to the rest of the fediverse. I know that some people think that I'm exagerrating or that I'm just making these posts because I "don't agree with what they're posting" but I'm not this is actually a very serious problem, go check the instance out for yourself if you don't believe me it has become just as bad if not worse than EH.

Also just to be clear this isn't a new idea, other instances have already Defederated rammy.site due to the current problems on the site:

I'm new, what is this?

Instance Assistant is a browser extension that started out as a way to quickly jump from one community to the version on your home instance, so that you could subscribe/participate immediately. Since then, a few other features have been implemented:

If I want to link to a community X on a Lemmy instance Y.zzz, I know I should use the link /c/[email protected], which will redirect to the copy of the instance on the server where the user has the account.

What is the analogous way to link to a post? For example this post has address lemmy.ca/post/1866360 but what link should I give to users on another instance, so that they can see the post in their instance?
