Too late, when your neighbour threatens to burn down your house you don't wait until you smell smoke to grab a hose. For the next four years, fuck em. Canada has enough problems internally without having to play footsies with a geriatric moron and his billionaire owner.

For insiders who know the eventual outcome of the chaos, massive leveraged currency trading profits are available with 3% swings in exchange rates. On a daily basis. Expect more see sawing BS shifts.

How about we go ahead with the tariffs now? I mean Canadian tariffs on US products.

[–] wise_pancake 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I called it earlier.

They're just dangling tariffs as a sword of damacles to hurt Canadian companies without increasing prices.

We need to treat this the same as tariffs.

I wonder if Canadian factories/mills/mines are seeing panic buying by their American customers.

[–] wise_pancake 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I’ve panic bought computer hardware.

If things get worse I want as little dependency on US clouds as possible.

Unfortunately that’s not something we make here.

I just came across this article and thought you might be interested, though maybe it's all old hat to you.

Thanks!

That's a pretty comprehensive list.

For me getting my domain name out of US corps and my email off US servers is my biggest protection.

I use fast mail who are Australian but host servers in the US. Not sure how I want to migrate. I don't want to self host that.

I'm looking at setting up NextCloud when my new server is up.

My only US socialedia is LinkedIn, which is basically my resume hosted and is pretty important to me. I don't have a replacement yet except to build public profiles on Canadian masto and my blog.

Edit: I also have a backup phone I plan to install graphene on. Server will be Linux (need to pick a distro still -- too newb for arch right now).

Same here, just in case, was getting time for an upgrade so did the non GPU stuff. 10700k to 9800x3d, was very worth it for gaming. Now hopefully will be good besides the GPU until the next administration. If there is one of course, he'll push for a other term by the end through some shady manner.

At this point we need to diversify our trading partners. Trump's gonna do whatever he's gonna do. We've gotta do what's best for us.

At this point we need to diversify our trading partners.

That's the funny thing. Canada is doing this.

Trump talks out of his asshole, makes threats, Canada says "k", and looks to do business elsewhere. The US is still going to buy our aluminum and oil, but our imports from the US will drop as we find other partners.

That my friends is the art of the deal.

When you can't trust your partner, you don't sit around hoping they get better. You find a new partner.

Trump wants to replace income tax with tariffs, I do see Trump being an ass who pushes for more so the tariffs do not go through. I really hope Canada does not bend to Trump much longer.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's going to create a crisis and have demands, threaten the tariffs until Canada makes some form of deal, postpone it, and come back with a new crisis, rinse and repeat.

It feels like the media have already lost interest in the story. There isn't nearly as much coverage as the last two times.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

Making the news and people unable to keep up is part of the strategy.

The boycotting, booing and hatred will continue until Trump's departure. Even if they say sorry. Even after the next president. And the next.

Personally I am finished with their cultural exports. I want nothing from them. I can't even listen to music sung by an American without feeling like it doesn't belong here anymore. It's not the story or song if anyone I have any kinship to, so why give it any of my time?

All we've learned is that we should absolutely go for the throat the second they are vulnerable because we're just a prey item to them, and fuck being toyed with.

Cut their jugular the first chance we get. Start offering immigration opportunities to all the Americans who want out of that country as well. Increase our population. Make people with degrees a priority. Start pumping our natural resource sector and becoming independent of the us. Get our resources to other countries around the world. There's no reason why we can't be one of the richest countries on earth. We do have a small population but with the increase in technology and automation we can make up for the low population by increasing worker productivity. We also have to find a way to have a gun to the us head somehow. North Korea uses a huge supply of misses and bombs close to the sk Capitol that stops any kind of invasion. We need that to prevent any kind of physical invasion. Maybe new york or some other city in close proximity to the border. Basically of you invade us, we level a city or something. Gotta be a way to at least slow down the prospect of an invasion. Or even threaten to collapse their power grid or something.
