This is probably my all-time favorite meme format. I just love it so much.

Same. The wife and I love this meme so much that we have it hanging in the dining area:

the "Sasa Lele" meme, drawn in the ancient Japanese "Ukiyo-e" style, printed and framed

What about Orleans in Ontario? OR-LINZ? OR-LEANS? OR-LAY-ON? Something else?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago

But then Orleans in Quebec is OR-LAY-AN

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago

OR-LEANS is the only version I've ever heard in the wild.

The cat's right. Who pronounces full city names? TOR-ON-TO? No no no, T'rono.

Yup, if you're pronouncing Calgary as a 3 syllable word, you're doing it wrong.

But then again, there are some cities where people add letters that aren't there, like Vangcouver

Yup, entirely valid.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

I like that spelling. I may use it henceforth.

Except, of course Sakskatooon

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope, that's just "the 'Toon".

It was really something during the convoy in Ottawa

I was listening to their pronunciations of streets like Elgin and Colonel By and they were atrocious.

Okay so technically, Montréal is about the mountain that is in the middle of the city.

Mont-Réal (Réal meaning Royal in Catalan, actually name of the mountain being Mont-Royal) Mont = Mount Réal/Royal = Royal (found this Wikipedia article about the word which is also a name for people in Québec https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9al_(given_name) )

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

Montréal is the mountain.

Montréal is also the name of the island

Montréal is also the name of a city on the island

Montréal is also the name of the CMA that surrounds the island

Montréal is also the name of a park on the mountain of Montréal that's in the middle of the city of Montréal that's on the island of Montréal inside the CMA of Montréal.

West Montréal can go fuck itself.

Only narcs say Ed-mon-ton or Tor-on-to. Easy way to spot 'em.

[–] JohnnyCanuck 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The key is to soften/glottalize that t.
