News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Who needs bots? get up your old abandoned reddit accounts guy!

Lemmy tastes like reddit that I have grown in my backyard garden.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I don't get the hate this place gets. It's been really interesting watching Lemmy's growing pains over the last two-ish years and all the changes it has undergone. The whole concept of the Fediverse is fascinating to me and has been a genuine delight to explore.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed. I never even had Instagram or twitter but I've become a pixelfed and mastodon lurker after enjoying Lemmy for 1+ years. The comment section here is miles ahead of reddit, where you get repost after repost and the same old tired jokes in every comment section.
The fediverse is fantastic and I'm happy to be a (very minor) part of it.

I'm almost 40, this place reminds me of the early internet in a good way. Like, people connecting and sharing ideas... what even Reddit used to feel like. Sure, sometimes there are arguments but, due to the lack of an "outage" algorithm to juice engagement, you usually only hear about it unless it's something you directly follow. With the lack of profit motive on the side of the platform and hosting end of things, it appears that trolls and clout chasers have a genuine hard time monopolizing everyone's attention.

Where's my vile homies at?! Let's get freaky with some Linux and Star Trek memes.

This is some cope mechanism or some Stockholm syndrome right there.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Conspiracy theory those are actually written by Reddit themselves so people don’t go to the rival

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 hours ago

Thats what people in the comments thought.

Idk I kind of like Lemmy so far 🤷

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 hours ago

it's basically like a super Reddit

[–] [email protected] 41 points 7 hours ago

If the rest of the post is: BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO LIBERAL.

Good. We don't need anyone deterred by that. We do a fine enough job fighting amongst ourselves.

[–] [email protected] 134 points 9 hours ago (10 children)

I wonder why? I have been here for a couple of days and it's nice so far.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Welcome in from the cold. We have hot cocoa and blankets.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 hours ago

Thanks. 😂

[–] [email protected] 149 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Because Reddit removes posts promoting Lemmy

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I've been lurking reddit lately, to see what propaganda the normies in the US are exposed to, and I found this thread fucking hilarious.

Every comment is complaining about how this will be the death of reddit. None of them realize Reddit already died years ago, and they're just getting high off the ashes.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They probably went to .ml or a tankie instance

[–] [email protected] 24 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

they made a post, got tons of downvotes, then complained about downvotes which also got downvoted, got caught by automod because of downvotes, appealed, got unbanned, then deleted account or got purged because nothing even shows in modlog. the account was on sjw, posts were to communities in .ml and lw

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

This right here is why the public mod log is one of the best things on the internet.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

like i said, nothing shows in modlog. user is ModerateImprovement on sh.itjust.works, i'm guessing based on that reddit post

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 hours ago

Oi. I remember them. They definitely came in extra hot. Clashing with a culture they had no experience with. And then wondering what everyone else's problem was. 🙄

lol, Lemmy is the most benign social media platform i have participated in decades

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

.ml and hexbear are full of rancid dogshit, on the same level of mental illness as r/conservative.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Average .world conservative when exiting the echo chamber

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 hours ago

I don’t know if it’s funnier or sad how many .world people seethe at people they’ve never even federated with

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

hexbear? got a link to that?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 hours ago

Elegant bit of trolling. Hats off.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

One of these is someone complaining about a ban from automod triggered by tons of downvotes on fresh account. That is, their takes were so shit that they were swept by tool meant for spambots

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 hours ago

And the replies explained that to them. It sounds like they were actually about even on upvotes to downvotes, but it was enough for an automod to act. They got unbanned after a real mod intervened. It is a frustrating experience, but one that's going to vary by instance and community. They mentioned in an edit that they might give it another shot.

The other post did have some legitimate complaints about lack of content, most activity being tech bros, far-left politics, and shitpost, cumbersome ui, bad moderation, and elitist users. All of these I agree with even if I think they were exaggerated considerably. But they have all gotten better over time or can be much mitigated with some effort on the user's part.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 hours ago

Lemmy is far from perfect, but so is Reddit, and Reddit is falling further every day. Some users on Lemmy have a bad time because they come barrelling in without reading instance tags, pick an instance name they think is cool, and suddenly find themselves on the front lines of a massive drama war and slapped with tags they didn't even know existed... I know from experience.

So then they'll run off back to Reddit without reading and actually finding the right instance and start screaming how bad it is. Couple that with Reddit trying to hush everything Lemmy and doctoring their platform to make it look bad... yeah.

I'll admit I still use Reddit from time to time because there are communities that don't exist here yet that are actually good communities staying out of this battle. But you can bet your ass I use RedReader and uBO to do it. The moment Reddit started charging exorbitant API fees and peddling NFTs I cut my use back by 90%.

So pick your poison: Do a little research and find the right instance and communities or live as the product and run around with the blinders they give you. Its literally a red pill blue pill deal.

Sorry, I meant to say when you search on reddit for it.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Oh wow, that's a pretty significant detail.
I was wondering what search you used for those results, I tried Google, and got mainly results about Motorhead.
But now I see the main filters on your search are: Posts, Communities, comments...

So pretty obvious when you know it.
